Question: Any guesses to how many calories burned ......

I KNOW I need a heartrate monitor, and I plan on purchasing one soon. But I am just curious if anyone who regularly attends an hour long group class at the gym who wears a heart rate monitor, or has in the past - if you have a rough idea of how many calories you burn during a group class. I'm female, 5"4' and 195 pounds.

Workouts I was questioning about are:

working out with a personal trainer for 60 minutes

Bar Bell Strength (includes lunges, squats, core, back, triceps, biceps) pretty much working all areas of your body for 60 minutes.

Also a group class through LIFETIME that rotates around 5 machines, and you do each station 3 times. Each station includes 3 things at each station (machine, then squats or lunges, planks or something similar). It's an hour and I was working up a pretty good sweat. I just have no idea how many calories I am burning.

Any thoughts? Again - I preface the discussion with full awareness that I need a heartrate monitor.

For the classes you describe, a heart rate monitor won't be that accurate either. I would just multiply your body weight (in kg) times 5 to estimate calories per hour and work from there. For these classes that will be about as accurate as you can be.

Interesting formula - where did you hear that formula? I translated my weight into kg - came up with 88 kg. That would put it at 440 calories. Sounds about right. I was guessing on the LOW side of about 300-350, just to be safe.

Quick question....for those that don't understand kg...can you translate the formula to put that into pounds... Ex: how many kg=100 pounds? That would help.

I googled it because I didn't know either. and 1 kg=2.20462 pounds. Just google "kg to pounds" and a formula will come up so you can enter your weight. Or just divide your weight by 2.20.

I've been doing this for a lot of years and I know the general intensity levels for a lot of different workouts- close enough for this type of estimate, anyhow.

PS: sorry, I assumed that the kg to lb conversion was common knowledge. didn't mean to confuse anyone.
