What would you have done?

Today I had a bit of a conundrum. I had eaten 650 kcals up to after lunch then i went for a long walk amd work out which left me -130 kcals consumed. I just got home at 8pm really hungry with some healthy food ready to eat, but slighty carb heavy (30-40g of carbs) yet still lean and with lots of protein and nutrients. I was concerned that eating this late would have a bad impact on my body fat % eating only 3 hours before bed. But I did eat it with a glass of red and feel much better and very satisfied. But what would you have done? Eaten nothing? Eaten only protein?
I'm still over 600 kcals from reaching my 1200 calorie target. Should i eat more so I dont do my body any damage or leave it? I also did heavy weights training todays as well as walking so I want to feed my muscles. What should I do? Not sure if my diary is open or not but feel free to look!

If you aren't hungry, one day of eating a lower calorie total isn't going to have any effect on your efforts to date. If you're hungry, eat something, because eating close to bedtime isn't going to have any effect on your efforts to date.

That's the short version. Here's a bit more about the whole not eating before bed thing based on personal experience:

The whole not eating before bedtime thing is ultimately just a myth. I'm a daily weigher and have seen plenty of times that I've eaten as close as...well...sitting in bed having a snack before I lay down, to bedtime and have woken up the next morning with a loss on the scale. The longest period of time that you will be going without food in a period of time (save for IFers) will be from when you go to bed to when you wake up. So if we eat every few hours during the day, where's the harm in eating before what's basically a mini-fast?

I wear a BodyMedia Fit, I burn about .9-1.1 calories per minute while I sleep. I burn about 1-1.2 calories per minute when I'm sitting at my desk at work. At work at eat every hour or two, at night I go five to seven hours without food. So I really don't see any issue with eating before I go to sleep and haven't seen any negative side effects.

I eat when I'm hungry and don't when I'm not. A couple of days with a low net isn't going to instantly halt my weight loss and put me into starvation mode. Just don't net really low daily. Also, you can eat at whatever time you want. Your metabolism doesn't slow down when you sleep. People will only notice weight changes if they regularly binge before bed, and that has nothing to do with the time, it has everything to do with your calorie deficit.

I agree with what Rose said. I regularly eat later dinners (within 2 hours of bedtime) because of my schedule and if I stay within my calorie goals and don't overload on sodium, it doesn't seem to have any adverse affect on my weight loss. Also, maybe try to get in more calories earlier in the day so you don't feel like you have to cram them in at night (unless of course you really ARE hungry).

Eating close to bed makes no impact on your weight loss. So I would have eaten.

Yes you absolutely should have eaten your dinner! And in the future try to plan out your meals so you are not in such a large deficit.

I usually do, but I ran out of food and lost my bank card so the only thing I could have eaten we my boyfriends cookies or bread and butter! I was very tempted so I went for a long walk to get away from them! I didnt expect to burn so much tbh! And then it got late... It's not a normal day for me! Still, i'll make sure i've got more healthy food in the cupboards for next time!

Agreed on eating if you are hungry, and don't if you are not. I eat late night snacks almost every nights. It hasn't caused me to gain weight.
