you do need to make sure you get enough protein and healthy fats too, and you probably won't get enough of that from veggies alone.0

A healthy diet is a balanced one, you cannot ignore other food groups.0

Sure, you can lose weight eating vegetables.
Actually you can lose weight eating any kind of food (google the Twinkie diet,) but losing weight doesn't necessarily mean that you are healthier.
The reality is that most people are going to be healthiest eating a wide variety of food. Veggies are great - eat lots of them, but make sure you add in some protein (egg or dairy or beans or soy or nuts if you don't eat meat) and some healthy fats like avocado or olive oil.
You might even find you lose weight more successfully if you combine some healthy proteins and fats with your veggies - because you're going to be healthier and full of energy and ready to exercise.0 -

ohhhh, well yeah, if you just wanna lose weight but don't care that you feel like crap and are tired all the time then yeah, you can probably eat mostly vegetables.0 -
Yes you can. There are vegetarians and vegans here and despite what some people tell you it is possible to be healthy as one. There si enough plant-based protein sources so if you are smart you'll be fine. But it is IF you are smart.0

I don't think anyone said being a vegetarian isn't healthy, but don't vegetarians get significant protein from foods that aren't "vegetables"? Beans, nuts, whole grains, etc?0 -
Thanks for the responses! And when I say vegetables...i mean ALL veggies! Including beans! LOVE eggs as well...just not super fond of meat! Not really a vegetarian so to speak I just lean more towards non meat dishes..if I have a choice between a hamburger or a portobello mushroom burger i will totally go with the portobello0

oh that DOES change the answer then! Yes OF COURSE you can be healthy without eating much "meat". There are lots of high protein, non meat foods. If you like dairy, there's lots of protein there too. You can even find some protein in the right kinds of breads. There is a brand called Joseph's that makes these whole wheat, oat, & flax based pitas and tortillas, and when i saw the lowish carbs and highish protein on the label I was pleasantly surprised! delicious too. I do love my meat, so I don't have too many other recommendations for you, but search the forums and other online resources for non-meat protein sources, and you'll do great.0 -
Of course you can, just try to make sure you aim to get about 1 g of protein per pound of LBM or .8g for your weight. so if you weigh 150, aim to get 120g of protein. This helps ensure you maintain your lean body mass.0
