high arches and great shoes

I am looking for some shoes, but my feet are funny, they are wide by the toes and very high arches. Does anyone else have this issue and can recommend some shoes that they adore? I am mainly doing interval training type exercises and Turbo Fire but also starting c25k and was hoping to find one pair of shoes to work with all. My budget doesn't allow for a pair of cross trainers, a pair of running shoes, etc etc. I'm looking to find a pair in the $75 range or lower, the lower the better of course lol

I have similar feet and love barefoot shoes. If you like more support, try Saucony.

    Brooks!

I agree. I had an arch reconstruction surgery 15 months ago & this was the brand that both my Podiatrist & Orthopedic Surgeon recommended that I get. I LOVE my Brooks tennis shoes!!
  • I have inserts for high arches that you can get at sports stores. These have helped a lot. They fit inside the shoe. They were expensive, but I have used them with inexpensive running wide shoes from Payless, and also discounted New Balance shoes.

That sounds like me - very wide in the forefoot and high arches. Of course I have also added some old injuries and a few neuromas which makes it hard to find good shoes too....

My current shoes are Brooks Dyad, the previous ones were Nike Vomeros. Both of these work pretty well - I had to go up a size with the Brooks to get enough toe room and that has reduced the amount of black toenails I get while I'm running. I find that the Brooks aren't as cushioned under the forefoot so that took a bit of getting used to, but I like them now.

Neither of these are cheap shoes - both over $200 in Australia - but if you are in the US you should get them for half the price, you guys are lucky to have such cheap shoes!!

Really though, the best idea is to go to a good shoe store near you and try on a stack of shoes until you find something that works for you.

My go to shoes in the past have always been Skechers and KSwiss, but I wasn't very active. I also have Osgoodshlatter (knee condition) since Junior High so that adds to the fun lol. I'm not a big runner at the moment, but hope to be when life is a little less crazy. Ironically, when I work out it's not my arches that bother me but the balls of my feet and my heels, everything BUT the arches. My arches have never bothered me, it just puts more of a limitation on the styles of shoes I can wear. IE, no strappy shoes, alot of boots are nix. I will check out Brooks and Friday when I get to town I'll try to hop by the mall if my son is in a good mood :)
