Given the proximity of thr prison to Hershels farm, do you not think that Hershel could have mentioned it? Although it is true that the group is short sited. "We will stay on the farm forever, we do not need a backup plan". Recipe for death. :drinker:

Hersel Wans't going to ever leave the farm,
He also wasn't going to mention the Dead in the barn or the little girl that they just so happened to find in the same time frame that the group were looking for a "missing" little girl0 -
I did not even know that was a prison.0

I agree with Back, Hershel does seem to like holding information to him self. Maybe it makes him feel like the real leader, granted I'm sure now he's knocked down a bunch of pegs with two dead children and losing his farm.
Maybe he didn't mention the prison because he thought his farm was safer... don't know how, but some people like that are crazy ya know. Or he could have thought all the inmates turned, and that the prison would be a worse bet because it would have enclosed walkers inside the gates, not just outside.0 -
Wow you really do love The Walking Dead, don't you? I do too hehe. I think Hershel is the kind of guy that keeps himself to himself. Maybe he was the sort of person that did not associate with the Prison and with the recent drama it just might not have occurred to him. Do you read the comics? The tv series is (in a way) a totally different series, with some similarities to the book. I would love to have someone to talk to about it!!! Anyways, I think the group got a little carried away. They saw the farm as a paradise compared to what they had seen, they figured that with the open fields and fencing, they would have more time to leave before they were over run, but I am guessing that most were asleep when Carl shot Shane. Yes the walkers were there a little soon but I am guessing that they had heard the shots from earlier and were roaming towards the noise, like the Book explains, one follows another and a herd gathers, that is what I think anyway.0

I think Hershel's reason for staying at the farm is because he was making a stand for what was his....like trying to hold on to his zombified fam. But his thinking was also seriously flawed, like he didn't realize they did not have a soul and there was no coming back from that shizz0
-
Remember Hershel didnt really trust the visiting group. I had not been out of the farm for a long time and didnt really know the extend of the situation around him. Only until Rick saves his life, he is a little more personable and kinda realizes that what they are talking about its true.
I cant wait till it starts again. Anyone who has read the comic where the show is coming from, knows a couple of spoilers happening in the future.. Lori will not be in for much longer.. I think. I really like her as an actor. She also did an awesome job in Prison Break.0 -
I think that Hershel felt safe there and till the group showed up, there was no need to think of plan B for a guy that thought catching his neighbor walkers and keeping them as pets, hoping for a cure and thinking they weren't dangerous or still "people". And why would you just say "hey you know what sounds great? A prison!" I mean, wouldn't anyone think that there has to be tons of criminals and walkers in there.0

You guys are making me want to go back and look at the show, now! I read a good chunk of the comic book back in the day, and have been playing the chapters to the video game (It takes place in the same universe as the show/comic book, but the protagonist is a man named Lee) , but somehow I think the show's gonna fill in some gaps.0
-
Hershel is doesn't seem the type to have a need to visit the prison frequently. It probably is hidden away in that dark corner of his mind that like any other unpleasant thoughts (like his wife is the bad kind of brain eater).0
-
I think he felt safe. He had everything he needed and had survived up to that point well. You also have to remember for the longest time he did not believe the Walkers were dead only sick0
-
But what about the fact that there was no prep for bugout? You would think that in their situation you would not want to br caught with your pants down. A little prep work and no lives would have been lost.0
-
I don't think the inmates would have turned. It's a pretty secure area. How would have a zombie gotten in? Unless of course some idiot opened the gate for one. LOL... I'm sure somehow they are all zombies, but it really doesn't make sense.0
-
i think he felt some control over his life and safe in the farm and honestly with everything that was going on he could have forgotten about the prison.0

I have seen that game, it is awesome! Do you feel that it is another branch from the book. Glenn is with Lee and his gang and then goes to Atlanta to find his friends and that's where he meets up with Rick and the others? The game is awesome!0 -
WE do not know how the zombies came to be. How many patient zero's their were. Maybe there was a patient zero in the prison. WE found out that if youm die , you turn and that you do not ned to be bitten. And in prison, I think people get the shive on a daily basis.0

So pumped for the coming season in October!!!0

I was just about to say this. More than likely one infected inmate spread to another. People died, it got out of hand. I mean, if you see the previews for season 3, the prison is full of walkers! Not to mention think about it, when the walker was in the well, they wouldn't have drank from it. There's contamination all around the prison from the months that were leading up to them finding it. The best they could do is shut down certain areas they knew were a lost cause and hold up in one part. BUT since they were JUST getting there, they wouldn't know what's safe and what's not. They are just going to find a way in.0 -
Hersel did not invite them to his home. He was a Vet and helped them with the injured boy and only because of Otis. It was not a open invitation to stay there. The group was very short sighted. Even on the farm, they should have had two cars ready for escape and cars surrounding where they slept. After what they have been through, some planning should have been in motion. But, then it wouldn't be TV right?0
-
I had no idea that was a prison!
I don't see why he would mention it, for all he knew it could have been overrun with the Dead.
Also, he didn't really care about where they were, he wanted them gone anyway.0 -
Maybe Hershals farm was REALLY the prison and the prison is really the only safe place! :sad:0

Yeah! Has to be. It's too much of a coincidence there. Lee and the gang wind up on Hershel's farm in the game and his son, Shawnn gets offed by zombies. He then makes the group leave. It's waaaaaay too much of a coincidence!
Also, I forgot all about Glenn! He left in the game and I've been wondering if I would ever see him again---but he's in the comic, right? He was the one that helped get ammunition from the gun store and stuff... If I remember correctly. Please tell me if I have it twisted so I don't suffer from foot-in-mouth-disease!0 -
Hershel wasn't thinking about leaving that farm at all. Additionally, the prison is quite a long way away from Hershel's farm so there really was no reason for him to think of it as an option.0
-
Me too!0
-
Does everyone think that the prison is just another place where the dead roam???
Because I seen it as a haven. Weren't there even helicopters? Why would there be helicopters if it was full of the dead?
Hmm, I'm convinced it's a safe place for them to go...for now.
Oh and I'm glad Lori is going to die. She annoys me.
Super sad Shane is gone though, but I'm glad Rick and Daryl are still there and Daryl is becoming the a leader of sorts, which is nice.0 -
I had another thought. That is farm country. Someone must of had a daissy cutter. They should of taken one and had it on the farm. when the dead arrived, they could of just mowed them down.0
-
Off topic... but who here would have killed Ottis?0

omg yes... yes... that is freaking BRILLIANT!!!!0 -

I wouldn't have... I honestly would have tried to help him as best I could. Sadly he was out of shape, he'd probably die anyways... but I wouldn't have done what Shane did and shot him like that.0 -
The problem is they rely too much on guns. If they had machetti's they couls of had a chance.0
-
I would not have shot odis. But I would not stick around to die for him either.0
