When we burn fat, where does it go? What does it turn into, and how does it leave our bodies?

"Fat" is long chain hydrocarbon molecules. When you "burn" it or oxidize it, those molecules are converted into smaller molecules (eventually, in its simplest form breathed out as carbon dioxide). The energy given off when breaking chemical bonds to make those smaller molecules is used by your body as mechanical and heat energy.

I know someone that took Alli. She at too much fat. I have to disagree with this. Seeing as she described what it was like to me (though I REALLY did NOT wanna hear). That is NOT how it happens.0 -
man, i read this story about it and she ^^^(healthybodysi) pretty well nailed it, its hard to explain but a few things i got out of it are fat cells are like balloons inside of another balllon of water, its easier to shrink those fat cells when your not retaining water and those cells never disippate, they only shrink. Unless you use lypo to remove them completely.0

Is that why I burn up when I exercise I get hot and I have to have two fans running and turn down the a/c? :laugh:0

Once stored fat is converted to energy, your body uses it to fuel activity and metabolic functions in much the same way it uses immediate energy from food. Waste material produced during the conversion of body fat into energy, specifically water and carbon dioxide, leaves your body through urine, sweat and exhaling.0

I have wondered the same thing. Where does it all go?
I find myself still confused even after reading the comments here lol.. ok..energy...so where does that energy go?

So, is that true you can never get rid of the fat cells? They just shrink?0

It comes out in your pee. That's what I read on MFP so it must be true0

UM NO. Do you even have scientific proof to back this up?? It's GARDEN GNOMES who cart it away in wheelbarrows and use it to fertilize the lawn. Get your facts straight before you start spreading dangerous misinformation!!0 -
So if you believe in the Fat Fairy she comes at night and removes fat - I believe! I believe! I believe! I believe! If someone says clap if you believe in the Fat Fairy I will clap like a maniac (and get some exercise in too boot) LOL  :happy:0
