Drink up while you can, NYC!

Appears your mayor passed that law on banning sugar drinks over 16oz.

Ironically except for things like Milkshakes (at least the last time I read anything on it) or things that have some kind of dairy content... so I'm sure you can still get the Venti (or is it the Trenta now) Mocha Latte or whatever other coffee beverage of choice that has just as much sugar as a soda....0
-
What if you bought two 8 oz sodas......is that allowed?0
-
So are people going to stand outside of stores and ask people to buy them extra soda like kids do with alcohol lmao0

I would almost visit NYC again just to see that.0 -

The mayor's war on the poor. I won't be buying anymore drinks in NYC. They were expensive enough already, so we always bought larges to share. Can't do that anymore. Ridiculous.
Plus, why can I still get a super fat, sugary extra large coffee?? Oh, right because poor people don't usually buy those to share.0 -
Its all about control and the nanny state we have allowed ourselves to be governed by. If you dont like it then vote the POS out and get things back to where they should be.0

True! It's an extension of the days of Prohibition and the Drug War, based on the idea that the government owns your body.0 -
The plan, proposed by the mayor in May, calls for a ban on the sale of all sugar-sweetened drinks—soda, sports drinks, energy drinks, sweetened teas, coffees and fruit drinks—in cups larger than 16 ounces
The new policy covers any any beverage that contains more than 25 calories per 8 ounces--but does not include diet sodas, soft drinks sold in grocery stores or those that contain 70 percent or more fruit juice. Beer is also not included in the ban.
Bwwwaaa haaa haaa! We all have our priorities I guess. Sugar makes you fat, but BRING ON THE BEER!.0 -

You probably can buy as many 16 oz drinks as you like you just have to carry the extra cups

Yep. Sadly, It will take a movement by the people, not just an election to correct this. It's the goal of both major parties destroying this country.
And I still can't use drugs. :grumble:0 -
Oh brother............
Guess what folks, you are allowed to buy as many 16 ounce drinks as you want, they just do not provide big gulp cups for that CRAP any more.
As for the "war on the poor" comment you gotta be kidding. If your poor, why the he!! you wasting your money on sugary drinks in the first place? Geesh people. This law is to protect the ignorant, oh I mean the innocent.0 -

Because every once in a while it's nice to be able to go out to a movie and get a soda and popcorn to go with it. It's not an every day thing. But guess what? 3 small drinks costs almost 3 times as much as 1 large. We can't afford 3 smalls, so we can't do that any more.0 -

Hey, I've been part of that movement since I was 15 and participated in NHL Forensics competitions. Ending the drug war and releasing non-violent drug offenders actually WON in nationals that year. There is no evidence to defeat that position, only emotions and anecdotes. The internet is helping tremendously with spreading the truth. Sometimes I feel like we are in an information war.0 -

It must be nice to be so perfect as you.
The law isn't to protect the ignorant. That is the most ridiculous, uneducated statement I have ever heard.
Wow, name calling, real classy.
Ya'll better not go to Europe, they charge 5 euro for one 12 ounce can of soda, that is around 7.5 American. And yeah, when you look around you will not see fat people, well, unless they are American tourists.
And as a matter of fact, it is pretty darn nice to be me.
But I am going to bounce back out of this thread now. The name calling and mean remarks toward me will not be replied to. I am in charge of my body and my life. And I can tell you this, I did not get to be a size 2 by drinking sodas, even at the movies.0 -

Just as we should be in charge of our lives. But you don't want to allow that, do you? NO, you want the government to control other people's lives.
P.S. I did get to be a size 2 drinking soda. So sad for you that you were unable to accomplish that.0 -

Why does the government feel like they need to tell us what we can eat or how much. I thought that was what Dr Oz and infomercials were for :huh:0

I was just thinking that when NYC banned smoking in public buildings we were all horrified, but now it's absolutely the norm in most first world countries. I'm a smoker and I can't imagine how I ever smoked all over other people in restaurants and bars.
This may not turn out to be such a bad thing either.0 -

I don't know, because they are cheap? Here I can go to McDonalds and get any sized soda for $1.08 (the 8 cents is sales tax)... that means a 12 oz is $1.08... the 32 oz (which is the biggest it goes because of public, not government, pressure) is $1.08.0 -

It is a bit true. I consider myself pretty overweight compared to most people I know, and I'm 156 pounds.
We're definitely getting fatter as a nation though, as we get more McDonalds and KFC and Dunkin bloomin Donuts0 -
So are refills allowed.. or is this just in convient stores? :drinker:0

Good point, so I better not. I'm not even from NYC, just NY. I'm just preparing.0 -
Amen. Stupid law. Only benefits the businesses. This will not help people lose weight. I thought I had heard everything...I was wrong..0
