Anyone taking lecithin supplements for weight loss?

A coworker of mine recently lost about 7 pounds, attributing it to having started taking lecithin tablets about 3 months ago. She said that she hadn't changed anything else.

I was wondering if anyone else had experience with this? Am not looking for a magic pill but thinking that it might help to prevent a plateau a few months down the line.

I am concerned that, at least according to a Whole Foods staffer to whom I spoke, that pretty much all lecithin supplements are soy-based. As someone who once had a diagnosed thyroid condition, generally stay away from all but small amounts of naturally fermented soy products (soy sauce, tofu, tempe), as they interfere with thyroid absorption...

  • I am taking lipo-vite injections while following the diabetic diet. Lipo-vite speeds up the metabolism and provides a lot of health benefits to the body. It contains Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, and C as well as Choline, Inositol, and Methionine. I lost 3.2 lbs the first week and 1.2 lbs the second week. I am now starting my third week of the program. I've had much more energy and much less appetite since starting the injections.
  • lecithin does not aid in weight loss. your brain is comprised of a large amount of lecithin, and, unless you want to consume beef or sheep brains, supplemental lecithin is derived from soy. it is very good for you...it's a fantastic source of choline, inositol and linoleic acid. i suggest taking it...i do...but it won't help you lose weight.
  • Thanks, Emily - in Googling it I couldn't find any evidence supporting its use for weight loss. Appreciate the confirmation. Chattykat, thanks for the info on the injections that you're taking, too!
