THIS is why strength training is important

I have mentioned this study a number of times, but I didn't have the specific citation. This is not an abstract, but a graph of the results.
This was a landmark study done in 1991 that really gave strength training a boost to become an accepted--almost required--part of a weight loss program.
I think it is interesting as a historical document. I also think it provides some interesting perspective. There is a tendency for "new trends" in fitness to downgrade or even dismiss things that came before. Some of the cheerleaders for the current trend of "metabolic" training, or high-intensity circuit training like to make it sound as if there is no other effective way to lose weight.

Thanks for posting. I try to do at least 20 minutes of strength training 4x/wk and I will stay on top of it. Another important thing is to stretch...something I have to get better in doing.0
