Looking for a good bathroom scale-suggestions?

So up until recently I've been weighing myself at work...however, the accuracy of it is very questionable because of many reasons.

1.) By the time I get to work, I've already eaten my pre workout snack, had at least 2 cups of water during my workout and maybe even had my breakfast AT work.

2.) I cannot (obviously) weigh myself without clothing

I'm told you should weigh yourself without clothes first thing in the morning at about the same time every day.

I've been shopping around for a bathroom scale and wondered if anyone could suggest a good one that has fat % and is not too expensive.

Thanks in advance and have a great Friday!

We have had a fancy one that cost us lots and battery need to be replaced what seemed like every few months. It seemed inacurated half the time.
We recently aquired the old school one with a large circle with the arrow that goes around to the numbers, non-digital and I love it.... it feels more accurate to me. And I think they are like $30 at London Drugs (canada).
I've given up on the digital we would love to find a physician's scale but don't know where to find one.(they one that stands up right against the wall and you slide the weights along to counter balance the weight.) These are very accurate.

get the basic scale at wal mart or target. for consistency, use only one scale. the less frills the better. use it on a hard surface
    (not on carpeting)

weigh nude after your BM in the morning

if you weigh more than once a week, be prepared to get angry, frustrated and homicidal. Your weight fluctuates naturally everyday sometimes up to 5 pounds. This is normal but you wont believe it.

the body fat percentages given by most of these scales are a function of the information you put into the scale (height, age, gender) then it adds your weight to the equation. It is not a true measure of YOUR body fat. Not worth the money.

Hey, thanks! I've only been weighing weekly. Daily drove me nuts so I stopped that :(

The last part of that statement cracked me up because that was me this morning lol I have a digital scale that we bought at walmart for about $20. I weight myself before a dr's appointment and then of course they weigh me and its always dead on with the dr's digital scale.

I always put my scale on the hard wood "LEVEL" floor to get the most accurate reading. Move it around on your floor and get on and off your scale and you'll see that its never the same with different surfaces or non level floors.

I think you have a long way to go to beat Salter scales.

True for most, but not these scales.

Tanita uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). Body impedance is measured when a safe, low electrical signal (about 50kHz, 500 Ma) is passed through the body, carried by water and fluids. Fat tissue does not contain much water and creates resistance or impedance to the signal. (Fat is approximately 10-15% hydrated, wheras muscle is normally between 50-70%.) This impedance information is then used to estimate the amount of lean and fat tissue within the body.
Through a process called multiple regression analysis, Tanita has developed highly researched proprietary formulas that are based on impedance, height, weight, gender, body type (normal adult or athletic build), and in some cases, age. Tanita's reference method is Dual X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA), which many experts now believe is better than Hydrostatic Weighing because of its accuracy and reliability. All analytical methods use equations derived from large, multi-ethnic population studies to predict body composition.

Not for everyone but I'll keep using mine certain that it was worth what I paid for it.

I bought a Healthmeter at WalMart for $35. It also keeps track of your losses or gains and stores info for up to 4 people.

to each their own I guess but body weight is such a small part of my goal that spending this much for a scale would make me sick to my stomach. The mirror and the measuring tape are more important than body weight number on a scale

I would rather spend the money on gym fees, massage fees and steak

EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale w/ Extra Large Backlit 3.5" Display and "Step-On" Technology

Both very accurate and highly recommended and cheap.
  • I'm using the EatSmart Precision scale from Amazon http://goo.gl/Xuvlz ($28.95) and the Accu-Measure fitness 3000 personal fat test caliper http://goo.gl/ZWPKe ($5.15). They both work perfectly. I had one of the walmart scales that measured fat % but it wasn't always correct and it stopped working after a year.

I spend about $35 on one of the fancy ones on Amazon which tells you your body fat % and water %. It fluctuates constantly. In the morning I'll be 28.5% bf and 53% water, in the evening, I'm 25% bf and 55% water. Your hydration levels have too much to do with it. It's not even a decent estimate in my opinion. I'd go with the regular scale from Walmart, it's more reliable. Make sure it's on an even surface and you weigh under the same circumstances - preferably once a day or once a week in the morning before eat/drink and after you take care of your business.

I agree with the majority and to get a standard one. What my family does is with ours, we saw how much we weighed at the doctor's office since their scales are the most accurate in my opinion and matched our scale to their measurements. That way there's more consistency and we're not freaking out if the doctor scale says a 3 lb increase :)

I have had this one for quite awhile and think it's great. I did find mine at Bed Bath and Beyond (and used the 20% off coupon), so it wasn't much more than a regular bathroom scale.

We bought a Weight Watchers brand scale at Costco, I think for under $20. It seems to be working quite reliably for us.

I have a basic Taylor Scale I purchased from Target for $20, it is the digital one. No extra features. I used an 8 lb dumbbell to test for accuracy and it was right on. It works great! I recently purchased an Omron Body Composition scale and I'm not too happy with it. It weighs me at 1.2-2 lb. more than my Taylor scale. I also believe it over estimates my body fat at 28.5-29%. I am a Female, 5'1", 36 y.o. and 107.8 lb. on that scale. Seems too high to me. I will probably return it.

Here's a good bathroom-scale suggestion: toss it in the trash. People get way too obsessed with numbers.
