low carb vs low fat ??

i am just starting to diet and right now i am using the prepared frozen foods like smart ones and healthy choice meals for lunch and dinner, salades, veggies, fruits and stuff through out the day for this first 2 weeks and it seems ok, but i do not know if going on a low fat or low carb diet would be better overall and just plan and make my lunches and dinners from scratch. i have measuring cups, and spoons and can get a food scale but i am not sure if i shoud focus on calorie count, fat or carb counting, or just a combination. any suggestions of which way to turn, thank you for any suggestions of which seems best.

  • hi :] i think you are on the right track with thinking about making your food fresh. you have more control over what is going in each recipe. you know what you are putting into your body.

    if you would like a great resource, i love Oxygen Magazine. I do not use their Whey/Casein/Meat recipes; I do modify them for Vegan purposes.

    Low fat means high sugar.... Dietary fat is actually very healthy for you. Also, try to eat more natural and stay away from prepackaged food, it's sodium in a box. You don't need low carb unless you have PCOS or another metabolic syndrome.

    Your body needs fat, carbs and protein for all kinds of wonderful things (hormone production, energy, muscle support, etc etc). Why would you want to short yourself any of those things?

    Calorie counting is always the first step. Once you get a handle on that, then you can fine tune if you need to. But always start with calorie counting.

    Calorie counting is the way to go. I eat plenty of carbs and fat and still lose because I watch my total calories.

    I love those frozen meals, but make sure you're not going over your sodium...they really are packed with sodium. I lose plenty of water weight on low carb but as soon as I stop low carb it's like it comes right back on, so although I watch my carbs somewhat, I don't take it too seriously. Just keep all your macros in check for the most part, and you'll be good.

    thank you. i went to the site from oxygen magizine and at this stage the recipe section had good things to try. i am 100 lbs over-weight and have not exercised in sooo many years though my job is non-stop and my doctor said he counts it as exersise, and i work 4 days a week.
    i think calorie counting will be the way i will go. i have to learn a whole new way of eating and taking care of myself

    i bought 2 weeks of frozen foods but i can use this time to get recipes and tips on eating, cooking and being kind to my body.
