Good morning,
I'm taking today off of running since I did my long run yesterday.
I just finished doing 1hr on the elliptical.
Have a wonderful day, I can't believe that the sun is finally shinning!!0 -
Today’s plan of attack (POA):
run for 5 walk for 5 for 40 minutes this usually averages 4 miles
each time I run I increase .2 starting at 5.2 ending with a 6.0 sprint
my legs feel like rubber though from a 5 mile yesterday0 -
It is Monday.:grumble:
Logged 3 miles at 5:45 am!
Enjoy the day

Happy Monday everyone!!
Today's plan is 4 miles or 45 minutes - whichever my body can handle! Running outside tonight while the oldest is at baseball practice.
Have a great day everyone!! Run for your Lives!!

Completed week one of Couch to 5K on Saturday. Going to start week 2 tonight while my daughter's softball team warms up for their game. I should be done with my workout by game time if I figure it right. Hopefully I won't stink too bad so the other parents won't mind sitting by me! :laugh:0

Ladies, I need your help!
My leg feels fine today, should I chance it and try to jog? I don't feel the shin splints anymore, but i'm scared that once I start jogging, my leg is going to cuss me out!

I forget, did you end up getting new shoes???
Because I have bad knees, it helps me to take a couple Advil about 30 minutes before a run. And (my Mr. Whipple moment) be sure to stretch before you go.
Good luck!! :flowerforyou:0 -
I haven't purchased the new shoes yet because my bank account is still angry with me for buying all the new furniture for the new house.
I'm going to try to stretch as much as I can and take it light today. If I start to feel anything, i'll stop. I really REALLY want to jog. I hope this doesn't stop me from jogging.0 -
From Runner's World....(Shinsplints)
Causes: Tired or inflexible calf muscles put too much stress on the tendons, which become strained & torn. Overpronation aggravates this problem, as does running on hard surfaces such as concrete sidewalks.
Beginning runners are the most susceptible to shinsplints for a variety of reasons, but the most common is that they're using leg muscles that haven't been stressed in the same way before. Other common causes of shinsplints among beginners are poor choice of running shoes and running in something other than running shoes. Runners who start running after a long layoff are also susceptible to shinsplints because they increase their mileage too quickly.
Self-Treatment: Many runners experience mild shin soreness, which usually can be tolerated. "If shinsplints hit you at the beginning of a season, a certain amount of running through them will help the body adapt," says David O'Brian, D.P.M., a podiatrist in Rosell, IL. "but if it's a persistent problem, you shouldn't run through them."
If they do persist, ice the inflamed area for 15 minutes three times a day & take aspirin or ibuprofen. Ice immediately after running. To hasten recovery, cut down on running or stop altogether. Recovery time: two to four weeks.

Question...i ran 5 miles yesturday and my pecs hurt today. My pecs...not quads or any part of my leg hurt.
Is it from the swinging while I run?
(Its not from having a massive chest or benching millions of pounds I swear!)0 -
I am so upset with my legs right now. I did a light jog for one mile and the shin splints started acting up. I ended up walking very fast for half a mile after that and then I had to stop and go on the elliptical for a little bit.
I feel like i'm never going to be able to jog0 -

Hey all,
Just wanted to check back in. I can't believe how motivating posting to this group is for me! I ran 6 miles today. Whew! (where's the emoticon wiping the sweat from it's brow?)
I hope everybody sticks with it today. If you are having difficulties (Lina), DON'T give up. You'll get there, by doing what you can and wanting to do it. You haven't stopped. Your body is going to come around. :flowerforyou:
Gotta run (pun intended) and get my 6 year old off the bus.0 -

Well, I was only able to jog in place today.
I tried hoppingon the treadmil but the pup wouldn't let me (he would hop on with me).

Strength training for shin splints:
put a dish towel on a wood or tile floor (or other smooth surface)
use your toes to scrunch it up and push it back out
this will strengthen that muscle and help decrease the shin splints, eventually go away0 -
Thanks for the advice ladies! I am going to try those things!0
