Protein and Cravings!!

A big Hiii to all you awesome mfp people.I just want to ask people who work out regularly and eat a lot of protein and fiber.Do you get cravings ?

Cuz i dont and its freaking me out because a huge part of losing weight is gaining control of your cravings and eating healthy when u feel really hungry. But instead of my aching stomach, its the clock reminding me that i should eat now.

Hi back! Although I've been increasing my exercise, I don't know if I fit the profile of the person you want to answer but I'm gonna do it anyway!

I've slightly upped my protein and reduced my carbs and I no longer feel desperate and out of control. And, I'm not freaked out AT ALL! I'm delighted and it's helped me stay on track and to continue to lose weight (about 2lbs/week) even though I'm not killing myself at the gym. I do have a weight goal in mind for when I really start to make the exercise count (I'm a creaky old lady hoping to make things a bit easier on myself!). Also, I've always heard that exercise is an appetite suppressant.

I think you should delight in the fact that you've got this!

The more I exercise, it seems the less hungry I am. So much so that I'm at the point now where I'm actually struggling to consume at least a decent 1200 calories a day. I tend to eat more protein (including using shakes as a meal substitute on some days) and definitely cut down on carbs. If I have a burger - no roll.

I stopped getting cravings after the first couple of weeks of solidly keeping to my routine. My parents ate a pizza the other night in front of me and I didn't bat an eye. But it's not all about denying cravings when they happen, either. Occasionally, you might have a serious craving flare up for something - and I'd say give in just a little bit. Deny any cravings too long and when you do breakdown you might over-indulge instead of keeping to a recommended portion.

It's all about self-control and keeping on track. I know you can do it!

Yeah, I wish more people would understand the lasting power of protein. It doesn't even feel like a "diet" anymore. I'm never hungry, ever. So much easier to sustain when you're downing copious amounts of protein all day :)

I'm finding the same thing. I think it's the protien, exercise and staying away from stuff that has a high glycimic index level that is doing it for me.

thank you guys.i feel much better now knowing its not just me
  • Here's a different perspective for ya. A couple months ago I was having these uncontrollable cravings, I mean I could eat a huge meal and 15 minuets later feel like I'm starving again. I stopped losing weight because I just couldn't resist feeding those cravings. I was eating/drinking protein but it just wasn't doing anything for me. Then just for s&g's I tried upping my protein and poof, all my craving were gone. Since that time, I have been losing a minimum of a pound per week. I still feel hungry from time to time but as soon as I eat, the protein helps me be completely satisfied and that is a God send!
