Over on protein?

Hey all!
On my food tracker for what I plan to eat today I am significantly under goal for all the elements apart from protein which is 14 too high.
Is this fattening? Or because I'm lower in everything else, is it ok?

Protein is good for you, don't worry about it.0

Too much protein (much more than YOUR body/muscles need) can put strain on your kidneys and put other bodily systems under stress.

But MFP sets the levels VERY low as standard. I generally try and have at least 175g of protein a day for a 175lb body weight.Too much protein (much more than YOUR body/muscles need) can put strain on your kidneys and put other bodily systems under stress.
Protein is also the least calorie dense of the macros (4cals per gram as opposed to 9cals per gram for fat), which means it should fill you up more for the same calories.0 -
better to be over on protein than carbs/fat, as protein is filling. its carbs that i struggle with, i have to make a real conscious effort to eat a meal a day with no carbs if i can, i just love bread/pasta/potatoes too much!!0

^^This!
Yes, this is also true! Sorry my note was quite vague.

i aim for at least 150g of protein a day - it's good for you. Do some research so you are educated on this. don't just 'go with' what mfp gives you.... it's not 100% accurate - on ANYTHING!0

I go over on protein a lot aswell, but as the other have said MPF seams to set it quiet low so don't worry to much about it!

Thank you all! I think I will do a bit of reading around MFP just so I don't have to post silly things like this

am glad you asked, saved me asking the same question!!!! so hard to know if its not something you are familiar with.0

You can change your settings. MFP defaults to 15% of calories from protein--way low in my opinion. I have changed mine to 30% for protein and fat and 40% for carbs, but I usually eat a little more fat than that (mostly healthy fats) and a little fewer carbs or protein depending on the day. If you are trying to build muscle, most sites say to eat 1 to 1.2g of protein for every lb of lean body mass. I do at least that. Reached my weight goal in July, now just trying to maintain my weight and add a little muscle.0

Cool, I didn't know you could change this. I tend to go a bit over in protein sometimes and under in carbs. I've never worried about hitting numbers as I listen to how my body feels and that's the best indicator of all.0 -
With my workout schedule I could care less about protein. For my I can never get enough high quality complex carbs. If you use them they never convert to fat. Burn it up. To much protein is rough on the kidneys.0

I have the same issue. I eat a lot of beans. I do not worry about my protein though, as I weight lift. Just pick up some 5lb bags of sugar and spend 20 minutes exercising.0

Unfortunately MFP only lets you set percentages - so say you do an extra 1000 calories of exercise, it'll bump up the protein by the same percentage, even if you may actually be mostly wanting more carbs.
It'd be nice if they could set it so you could set a fixed amount for protein, then let the other two work it out from that. But I don't particularly obsess about the ratios as my eating generally gets me a reasonable bit of protein.0
