I think I need to read Fifty Shades of Grey to see what the hoopla is all about. Has anyone read it? Is it good? Page turner?

I've read the trilogy. It's a good read to just get away.

    Here's a pretty good review

It is awful. I feel dumber for having read the first two. The main character is an idiot and the author it is an awful writer.

The online reviews are SO MUCH BETTER and hilarious.

The author totally misses the mark, the sex scenes are lame, Christian Grey exhibits every trait of an abusive man (not a "Dom") and the main character is an abuse apologist and takes women's rights back 50 years.

    Ugh.

This review is so hilarious and so much better. There are tons of them out there.

If being abused, fisted, and worse is sexy, then oh yea. Also terrible redundant wordsmithing. HOT HOT HOT!
  • I've read all three. The first one I thought was good, pretty interesting, but 2nd and 3rd I only read to find out what happens to the characters, they wer'nt as interesting. Can't wait for the movie, especially if Ian Somerholder plays Mr Grey.

Why? The (rather unrealistic heroine) is a virginal and unbelieviably naive college student...

Do many Mommy's fantasise about the red room of pain?

Oh and yeah - I read the first book, it had a strange compulsive quality which got me reading it even though I thought the writing and characterisation were poor.

I think it's a bit of a rip off between the Twilight series and the Story of O (which I had never heard of, until I found it on on my grandfather's bookshelves when clearing up after he died - I was quite shocked, but then I was only 17...

Personally I didn't care for it. If you like S&M which I do not. It has nothing to do with my age. I just don't
find people who like to get the crap beat out of them and having sex. Fifty thousand times a day because some
body says I have to and be restrained also. I would wig and the freak out. Give me regular dirty movies and books and I
am fine. To each his own. I read first book and said the hell with it.

I enjoy erotica. So, I read the books.
They were in fact a little redundant. And in most erotica stories they make it what it is. Not mask it as some sick kind of love.

Terrible writing. It started as Twilight fan fiction, which should tell you all you need to know, but in case that isn't enough:

The main character is extremely two dimensional, she's exceedingly selfish, & doesn't even know who she is, let alone how to be in a relationship. The portrayal of BDSM is insanely off base. The main male character is considered "broken" because he enjoys kink. Just overall, an embarrassing piece written for bored women who think being blindfolded is risque. If you are looking for well written erotica, this is definitely not it.

FYI, fisting & abuse are not on the same level. Fisting is an activity of trust & willingness, abuse is the exact opposite.
  • Don't waste your time. I was so bored by the sex scenes I skipped over them.

This book is infuriating and I have no connection to the main character....

    ...."oh my, I felt a tingle...down there!!"....

    Nothing hot about this read.
