Wondering if anyone else has this problem & how to deal with it. I know most women get intense cravings aroung their time of the month but I just get extremely nauseous and find it hard to eat or even drink without horrible abdominal pain and the urge to throw up. Does anyone else have this problem? I plateau once a month because my calorie intake is so low for a week straight. Besides trying to eat small meals, any other suggestions on how to mainitain my calories during this week?

Those don't sound like "normal" symptoms to me. Has it always been this way for you? If these are new symptoms, I would make an appt with your OB.
Wish I could be more help0 -
Might be worth talking to a GP, however...
I get really sick whenever it is that time. Not always, but I will have cravings days beforehand and then suddenly be throwing up or want to eat anything. The last two months have been ok, but...well, we will see next time. I don't think you are the only one and it will be your hormones doing this, but do check with a GP. Even if they can just recommend stuff.0 -
I used to be the same way, the pain was so severe I would be vomiting. I tried hormonal BC, was on it for about a year and it really helped. I stopped it and things never went back to being that bad.0

as I get older I find I get a bit nausea during those times I stick to my triscuits..I hardly ever plateau are u sure your sodium intake isnt high during TOM or your simply just bloating I highly doubt its a plateau0

I use to be the same way as well. i would be so sick I could barely move between the cramps and nausea. My gyn put me on hormonal birth control and it has literally changed my life. I am no longer out for the count for a week a month. I highly recommend a frank discussion with your gyn. I was up for anything to relieve my symptoms and luckily this worked pretty quickly.0

I've always had this problem. All my life. Some people have worse TOM issues than others. For me the pain was always so bad I couldn't function. My doctor had to give me pain killers before they invented ibuprofen. As much as I hate taking medication I needed it a day or two every month. Now it's not so bad because they are going away (I'm 52). Every since the beginning for me it was bad, even after having children.
Other than that I find that hunger comes in cycles. If I'm in a "more hungry" cycle I will eat at maintaince. I'm I'm less hungry I go with the flow and will take adantage of the time to eat less. I eat only when I want to eat. I have taken total control of that part of my life. Never again will anyone pressure me to eat when I don't want to eat or eat how many calories they think I should eat. I can skip any meal I want. I DECIDE. I OWN MY BODY.
So during my more hungry cycles I ate at maintenance and it's okay. You don't lose progress, you just stay steady and there is nothing wrong with that when you need a break from the deficit. It's better to do that then force it and then binge because then you go backwards. Slow and steady wins the race in this game.0 -
With me my sense of taste and smell go off, I often get nauseated, heavy with cravings, and the first few days before I start I get headaches. Totally annoying. :grumble:0

I get the same. Hungry all the time, but can't eat without feeling sick. I get headaches and back ache too.
Eat what you like, when you like - half portions seem to work for me.0 -
Drink your calories if needed:
Protein shakes
Orange Juice (any juice)
V8
Eat crackers, applesauce, soup0 -
Thanks guys, yeah I've always been this way. I FEEL completely pregnant the week before & everything makes my stomach turn. I've tried every birth control, even the lowest hormonal form & mirena and it's the same result with all of them. Which is having my period the entire time I'm on them plus the aversion to food. Ugh! Talking to the gyn is not a bad idea though.0

Very true, I just freak out because it usually ranges between 500 - 900 calories during that week and I feel like it's soo low! But it's true, I'm just not hungry!0 -
Yep I throw up due to cramp pain and barely eat.0

I have been sick with menstraul cramps since I started my periods. I would miss one-two days of school every month, staying home drinking vernors and eating crackers and throwing up to the point I wished I would just die. I have been on the pill since I was young, and this seems to help however i still have "flare-ups". I even went to the emergency room one time for intense cramping just prior to my period, the doctor said it was exploding cysts on my ovaries. I was also checked for endometriosis but that came back okay. I do notice that when I make better choices in eating, the cramps are less severe. Motrin also seems to help at the first onset of pain, if I wait too long it sometimes is too late to catch it in time. Hope this helps0
