Goal Weights Advice. Help!

Hi everyone! I normally stay away from the boards, but I have a question I really need some advice on. How do you decide what you want your goal weight to be? Here's my story.
I started to change my life (I normally say diet, but that's not what it was) in January 2011 at 262 pounds. I'm down to 197 today, and I had originally set my goal weight to be 150. The BMI would be perfect for my height - I'm about 5'8. I tell people I want to lose about 50 more pounds and they looked absolutely shocked. I am taller and I do have a bigger frame I suppose, so I was thinking of making my goal weight 160 instead. I have no concerns with being "skinny". I just want to be at a healthy and happy weight.
Any advice? How did you pick your goal weight?

I'm tall too (5'10"). People who are short (i.e. most women) have no idea what weight looks like distributed on a big body. Every inch of height is 12 pounds. And we have so much more space to store fat!

150 is a perfectly reasonable weight for someone 5'8".
I am 5"10 and 168. I am aiming for 150, which is where I was when I graduated from college and after I had my eldest son. I've been thinner as an adult (while nursing), but I get grumpy when I'm under 150. All the ideal weight calculators said I should be 146-155. So seems reasonable.
I think 150 is a good first shot for you. I bet you will look great and feel terrific. But if you can get to 160 and keep it off, that would be awesome as well.
It is a lot easier to lose weight than to keep it off. And health is what is important. You will not be 'too skinny' at either 160 or 150. But you'll look good.0 -
Personally I picked the top BMI that put me in normal range. I did this as a first goal because I had no clue what to aim for, I plan to get there then keep assessing till I'm happy.0

Thanks for the website! My weight ranges from 121-164. I think I will stick with any range between 150-160. That way I can give myself a little room because if I set one goal weight I will probably go crazy! I personally thought 150-160 was even big at first, but I never realized the amount of an impact height had on one's weight. I guess I am thankful that I'm taller!

I'm be careful judging yourself by scale weight. I know it sounds weird, but... Take a picture of yourself in a swimming suit when your near your goal weight. It will be very different to looking in the mirror and it will maybe help you decide if your about where you want to be body wise. Scales can be misleading IMO. Good luck x0
