Protein shake for exercise calories?

I had to eat a HUGE amount of food yesterday to get to 1200 after a big workout yesterday morning. I was wondering if I could supplement with a post workout protein shake? Does anyone here do that?

I know I was craving protein yesterday as that was all I was craving, turkey bacon, chicken burgers and grilled chicken. So I was thinking today that I almost never drink my calories, unless it's fresh juice and even that is rare. But maybe I should incorporate a protein shake. Any advice would be appreciated.
