Hey everyone i joined mfp months ago but I dont think I was ready at the time. Im 253lbs. i was never this big. about five years ago i looked in the mirror and realized i was 100 pounds heavier! i swear! i was gaining all that weight and was totally oblivious. I get so frustrated because I feel like I will never lose this weight. I have a hard time staying commited to things. im all pumped up at the beginning but then i lose motivation. I just feel like im at a point in my life where I want to start something (in this case losing weight) and follow through. what gets me frustrated though, is that I have to lose about 100 lbs to be at a healthy weight, and I dont even know where to start! Ive started with meal replacement and protein shakes for now, but if anyone out there has any advice, or resources, i could really use the support. Thanks guys!!!

Congrats on making the decision to get healthy! Please do not focus on the total amount of wgt you want to lose, break it down into smaller chunks, maybe 5 or 7 lbs & focus on that only. If you are constantly looking at the 100 lbs you will be come frustrated but 5 lbs is doable. Choose healthy foods & be aware of your portion sizes, do not lable foods good or bad it is simply fuel & you can have whatever you want as long as you keep your portions under control. Drink lots of water, sometimes when we think we are hungry we are actually dehydrated & if you are able to take short walks.
Hope this helps, it worked for me & I was able to lose 90 lbs. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like0 -
I lost over 60lbs about 2 years ago. The biggest word of advise I can give is to take it a small step at a time. Pre-plan snacks, eat smaller meals more often, and reintroduce fruits and veggies into your routine. It can't be done in a day, so set a small goal every month instead. Look at 10lb goals, or even just 5lb increments to make it easier to log progress. Don't bite off too much at once either.
I had stopped buying raw fruits and vegs because it was too much work to clean them, pack them, etc. But I found if I just got off my butt and did it for myself, the payoff was there. I had to learn to be selfish and think about myself. It was one of the best things I ever did. After I started losing the weight through modifying what I ate (portion control was huge), I started walking. I parked at the back of the grocery store, or restaurant, and I climbed stairs where I could.
Don't give up when you have a bad day. Just move on and make the next choices better ones. We all have a hard time changing certain habits or behaviors. Finding someone to confide your feelings with also helps.
Have you used the recipe builder? Its a great way to adjust some of your commonly used recipes. Subbing healthier ingredients for what you used to use can be a great way to save calories and still eat your comfort foods!0 -

log in everyday. log everything you eat. drink a lot of water. and then - here's the best part - have FUN. i think the best part of the site is that it can be fun, you can meet awesome ppl. don't worry about that final number. just keep at it, every day.0

Baby steps...baby steps, and patience. Rome wasn't built in a day. Personally, the biggest change for me came when i was truthfull on the food tracker about the quantity of food I was eating. Once I saw what I was actually doing, i started making little changes here and there, that eventually got my calorie count under control.
When i signed up at the gym the silly sales girl tried to say I needed to go 7 days a week...get a trainer..blah blah blah...i wasn't sure I was committed, so I didnt want to waste money on a trainer. I went every now and then, and i was making small inroads in my diet, and eventually my gains (in weight loss) motivated me to set up my own plans for diet and exercise.
i would recommend logging what you eat, and trying to walk a little bit each day, and giving it a good 4-8 weeks to see some changes.0
