You had a basic goal of 1500 and exercised 504 (allegedly) so it expects you to eat 1500 + 504 = 2004 in total

You actually ate 1190, so you have 2004 - 1190 = 814 left to eat

The "net" is what you ate less your exercise, so 1190 - 504 = 686
  • net calories is the amount of calories your body actually consumed for the day after exercise. say you ate 1800 that day and worked out burning 600- you net at 1200. i have searched this topic because it is confusing. there are threads that go into detail about metabolism, and there are opinions on whether or not to "eat back" exercise calories. there are opinions on whether or not the MFP calories burned estimates are accurate. some people never eat back exercise calories and net low. i am miserable doing that so i EAT and it's working so far.
most days i try not to let my net calories go below 1200. if i work out hard, i eat greek yogurt, edamame, something with protein afterwards. if i'm not hungry i will down a smoothie. what's most important is not to scarf junk in order to get the net cals up. Eat quality foods most of the time, don't deprive yourself of every thing you want and listen to your body.
  • also= i'm saving up for a fitbit to accurately track my calories burned

When you set up your profile on MFP it gives you a calorie target based on your daily energy requirements with out exercise factored in even though it asked you how active you are. This target already has a deficit built in.and you can lose weight just by eating at that target level without ever doing any exercise. When you workout to improve your health, you burn more calories then the basic level that MFP allotted you. Too big of a deficit is not healthy in the long run. It can slow your loss and if it is too big led to muscle loss and a slowed metabolism.
So your net calories is what your body gets to use after your daily activity and exercise burn. Its not good to go below 1200 on a regular basis and if you want to lose at a reasonable rate you should eat enough to keep you net calories at your goal calories.

Ahh I understand, thanks everyone! And MIlk_Shakes...I have the polar FT7 HRM to track, I couldnt believe how off the machines were and how hard it takes to actually burn calories, I do feel better having this to rely on.. So stay with saving for your fitbit!!
