alright, so here's the deal: i haven't worked out in a week due to an injury and tomorrow (monday) i'm going back to the gym. in the past i have gone to the gym and always done cardio first and then weight training. a week ago i tried doing weight training and then cardio because i know it will benefit you more, but i found myself exhausted beyond belief. i found it hard to finish my 30 minutes cycling, when usually i find myself having to put the resistance up to 10 to feel the burn. so my question is, should i continue with weight training and then cardio even if i feel exhausted? or go back to my cardio and then weight training? (i'm not very fit at the moment.) thanks in advance!

Do whatever will keep you working out regularly. Why do you think it's more beneficial to lift weights first?0

I've always been told that you should ALWAYS keep your exercise different. That way, your body doesn't get used to the same burn. So, if you start to feel like there hasn't been a change, do something different So, maybe just stick to weight training then cardio for a while. It's a good thing to have a variety of workouts!!0

Half cardio first, it gets your body warmed up. Cold muscles are more prone to injury.
Then your weights, and the other half of your cardio.
Where did you hear weights first are more beneficial?
It just sounds odd.
Yes change up your routine. But your body has to be warm first no matter what you do.
Weights one day, swimming another, cycling another, that's changing routine.0 -
Strength training is generally more beneficial long her,. Stick with strength training only if you're exhausted. No benefit from overworking your body.0

How about mixing it up and doing cardio a couple of times a week and strength training couple of times a week?0

weights and then cardio:
Burn More Fat
Your body can use two things for fuel: carbohydrates, which fuel high- and low-intensity activities, and come from the foods you eat and the sugars stored in your muscle and liver cells; and fat from your stored fat tissue, which fuels low-intensity activities. To burn more fat, you ideally want your body to use your stored fat as fuel for exercise, and to do this, you need to burn off your glycogen stores first. Weight training is high intensity, which means it uses solely glycogen as fuel. If you do your weight training first, you can burn the majority of your glycogen stores, meaning that when doing cardio, you will burn predominantly fat.

before i get to the gym, i walk about 12 minutes. i should add that my gym routine used to consist of: cardio, weights, cardio, weights, and then cardio and at last, stretch0 -
depends on your goal. are you looking to burn fat. gain strength & tone? maybe you're lifting too much too soon? generally strength train before cardio burns more cals. stretching warms the muscles. you can either shorten each session or simply alternate days. it's. ot crucial and there are no rules set in stone. do what works for your body. if you don't see results in 2-3 weeks, change it up. by then you should have gained. oth strength and endurance enough to kick it up a notch.0

i'm trying to burn fat/lose weight. i started at 2lbs and increased when i felt like it was too little, so i don't think it's too soon.0

If I do strength training AND cardio on the same day, I always do weights first. But my goal has been to build more muscle since I started with very very little. But in a regular week, I mix up my cardio and strength training days because I don't want to really burn myself out as I have done before in the past. Your day of "cardio, weights, cardio, weights, and then cardio" wore me out and I'm just sitting here. LOL0

I agree with the previous posters, but have to say, you mentioned to be nursing an injury. Keep that it mind and progress slow as you might reinjure yourself and then be off even longer.0
