uh oh, starvation mode? yikes! :o\ Help

I've been kina naughty with my diet and exercise regimen. The first week on mfp I stayed exactly or +/- a few calories , did cardio 5 x's and swam 2 x's. Hopped on the scale and was at a 5 1/2 lbs loss!!!! Starting weight 149.6 height 5'9" weighed 144.6 at the end of the week, I guess I was Sooo giddy from the weight loss high I got from losing that much that in my warped head I thought to myself " if I reduced my calories by 500 more and burned 200 extra calories than what I have been, I'll lose more quicker* that's exactly what I did. I went from an already low 1325 calorie allowance and 400 calories burned through exercise ( I don't eat Back calories) to 760 at MOST and burning 600 calories ( again, not eating back exercise cals). Now, here I am at the end of my second week and I weighed in at 147!!!! I know I screwed up by eating so low. I really don't know if its water weight, new muscle or whatever. Sooo my question for all of you is, am I already to far in this starvation mode to up my calories to a healthy level WITHOUT gaining weight quickly or if any?? Can I still up it and stay the same weight I'm at now? Also, once I start doing this more healthy and not over exercising, based on experience, how soon will it result in a positive weight loss?

Not to worry, it's not too late to up your calories out of starvation mode and continue having a good amount of weight loss  Some people go into starvation mode for a month or more before the light bulb in their head comes on and they realize what they're doing then they end up losing once they up their calories. I've done it a few times before too. Good job on your first week that is a great weight loss

No such thing as starvation mode. If ur not losing weight it's because ur not exercising.

You don't build muscle weight that fast.
Most weight in the first week will mostly be water weight from cleaning up on your eating habits. You hadn't lost 5.5 lbs
Pretend you never heard the misused "starvation mode" BS.
You need to eat more to fuel your body.
If your net is 1325 it should be this. If you are doing 400cal of exercise, you should be eating 1735.
Also, once I start doing this more healthy and not over exercising, based on experience, how soon will it result in a positive weight loss?
You'll see it each week, but stick to it for 2-3mths for results.

you need to eat to loose wt.. and I think the 'starvation mode' is believed by some and not believed by others.. either way its common sense that your body needs an 'x' amount of calories to be healthy wt loss and to have energy from exercise.. its not good to .. if you were at 1325 and REDUCED It 400?!?!? thats only about 900 cals a day .. not enough!... go back to your 1325 first wk... you also are already at a good wt for your height (in my opinion) so idk how much wt u wanna loose or maybe you should just look to toning??? idk..

here is a good link though about calorie/exercise and not enough cals...

You need to eat at least your 1325 everyday, especially if you're exercising. You might even want to consider eating at least some of your exercise calories (some do, some don't, its different for everyone). There is always a bigger than normal loss the first week, but then it evens out to a steady amount. This isn't a race, you're not looking to lose a lot of weight so you can't expect to lose 5lbs each week and as hard as it can be, you need to realize it will be slower than that and might take a few months but thats okay.

Did you even read what the OP wrote? She said she ate less AND exercised MORE. Weight is lost in the kitchen NOT in the gym. The only thing exercise does for weight loss is increase your calorie deficit, but you can do that by watching what you eat, weighing and measuring your food. I exercise so I can eat MORE, to build muscle and endurance, not to lose weight. To lose weight, I watch what I eat and track my food, and eat at a deficit.

Let me get this straight. At first, your energy availability (net) was 925 calories (which is likely a whopping 50% deficit below TDEE). Then you increased that deficit even further to an energy availability of 160 calories? That's probably 90% below your TDEE!

Look, your deficit doesn't need to be ridiculously large. At your weight and height, it doesn't seem like you have much to lose. If you want to lose about 15 lbs, set your weight loss goals to 0.5 to 1.0 lbs per week, nothing larger than that. So you are looking at between a 250 calorie deficit to a 500 calorie deficit each day. Partition the deficit so that most of it is from eating less and the remainder from exercise. If you choose a 500 calorie deficit, eat 350 calories less than present TDEE and exercise at 150 calories.

The amount of fat redeposition mainly depends on how high your starting body fat percentage was - the higher percentage, the more you are likely to regain. Secondly, it depends how greatly your Resting Metabolic Rate has been depressed during this restrictive energy availability term - the longer and steeper the term is, the more fat redeposition. If it's only been a short time - a few weeks, and your body fat percentage was still about average, then most of the weight gain you'll experience will be due to extra (normal) water volume.

You are already at a BMI of 21.7 at the low end of the healthy range. If your trying to loss the baby pooch look at New rules of lifting for women. You need to build muscle/tone up not loss weight.. Strong muscles change your shape and make you look smaller in all the right places. By dropping additional pounds you will lose muscle mass and just get a skinnier version of the flabby you your trying to change.
