Years ago my mom and sister followed Suzanne Somers' diet that advocates not eating carbs and fats together. I still haven't seen anything to back up the validity of claims like this. In fact, I would eat carbs with protein or fat so there wouldn't be such a spike in insulin.

I've heard and have been doing just the opposite. I always eat a protein with a carb.

All these fads are just a different way of restricting calories.

zero logic and zero science behind her reason behind it. She personally may have digestive reasons for it but that's just her.

Don't worry about it. It doesn't make any difference either way. Just hit your daily goals and don't worry about timing. It matters very, very little.

Yes! I always try to balance carbs with protein. any other way doesn't make sense.
  • I think it's to do with how your body breaks food down. If you eat one or the other and don't combine the two, it gets broken down quicker. I could be wrong but think this is the mentality behind The Slimming World Diet too.

Fit for Life (FFL) is a diet and lifestyle stemming from the principles of Natural Hygiene. It is promoted mainly by the American writers Harvey and Marilyn Diamond.[1] As the title of the 1985 book suggests, Fit for Life claims that one can lose excess body weight and maintain good health via long term dietary and lifestyle practices, rather than short term dieting. In the Fit for Life book series many dietary principles are recommended including eating only fruit in the morning, eating predominantly "live...high-water-content" food, and if eating animal protein to avoid combining it with complex carbohydrates.

While the diet has been praised for encouraging the consumption of raw fruits and vegetables, several other aspects of the diet have been disputed by dietitians and nutritionists,[1] and the American Dietetic Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians list it as a fad diet.[2][3]

Suzanne Somers was preaching this religion quite a few years ago.
