Any Elderly Dieters

Was wondering if anyone here in my age group needing support? I am 73 and need to lose about 100 pounds. I realize as we age our metabolism slows down and sometimes we have medical problems that makes it hard to lose weight. Then too, if you are like me it is not easy to find exercises we can do. So if that is you let's be friends and help support each other.

I started this journey at 395. I am now 241, I am 62. It is possible to do it. But it is not a diet. A diet has an end for us this needs to be a complete lifestyle change. I can never go back to the way i was. You can speed up your metabolism with exercise. I walk 1 hour per day 5 days a week. Feel free to add me as a friend as i am looking for some of us old farts to get and give help.0

Hi there.
I'm 64 and Type 2 Diabetic. I've been using this site for almost a year now. I've lost about 35 lbs. I've sort of been staying the same since May and I need to up my game I guess. I live in Oregon. Would like to be friends and support you and vice versa.

Hi there! That is great you have lost so well. I agree, not a diet, just change in life style to eat less and healthier and move more.0

I am 56 yrs and have just lost 180+ lbs in less than 2 years. My Mom who is 81 lost 70 lbs. There is hope if you have the "want to".I was on BP pills for 10 years and was starting on diabetic meds. I could barely walk because my knees hurt. I thought this was my fate because of gentetics and age. NOT SO. I ate 1200 cal, exercised , started slow only 15 min a day, and today I Run 5-7 miles a day, plus swim , and am down to a size 8. Praise to my Savior who "carried me out of the pit and set me on solid ground".Psalm 40.0

I will 62 soon and my husband is 69. I started at about 240 and have lost 50+ since January 2012. Husband has lost over 50 also. We have been doing this together. With arthritis, bad backs, knees etec. we started with just walking. At first 20 miuntes now we can do an hour. First 6 months is when we lost most of it just watching what we ate, tracking the calories and walking. Been slow going since then but still going. We have had to up the intensity of the walking but slow is still better than not. Add us if you want.0

Hello , It is so nice meeting everyone and reading about the weight losses. Let's me know i can do it as long as i stick with it. And I know with the support I receiive here I can. And to answer the question , yes those in their 60's qualify lol.
I realize it is a lifestyle change and must say it does scare me so I need all the encouragement I can get to make the change permanent.
