Hey,
long story short, I fell off a motorbike like 5years ago and I've bee getting back pains ever since, used to go to the doctor reguarly explained and received 6weeks of ibuprofen and paracetamol which I took, but it didn't really help more masked the problem for a few hours, later had a blood test and that was all
5 years on I still get back pains...todays are awful literally sitting her with an arched back and moving hurts any advice...I stopped taking the Ibuprofen after I was put on it again for like the 5th time, that stuff is too strong and too many side effects to be popping it regularly
please please help this is agony

I'd go back to your doctor and asked to be referred to a pain management clinic. My niece was the same as you and she went to one of these clinics, they can't always make the cause go away but they can help you manage it. My niece had physiotherapy. It's worth a try? :flowerforyou:0

Just go to a good doc neurology or orthopedic. First see what the problem is. I have two compressed disks (did several MRIs during the years) so for me is just physical problem. but with the help of physiotherapy, and especially acquagym now I can do full work krav maga lessons including the falls on the bare pavement without problems.
Just a little pain during TOM but this is just from inflammation.
But really painkillers are just treating symptoms and not the cause.0 -

Physical therapy. This did amazing things for me. It took 12 weeks but was well worth. Pain free now. Note - my therapist was amazing.0

Of course a doctor should be consulted. There are lots of reasons for back pain. I used to have it to the point of being bed-ridden a few time s a year. Here are some things that worked for me:
- Losing weight helped a lot!
- Motrin
- Hot tubs
- Message/PT
- Chiropractic adjustment
- Ultrasound (I wanted to buy one of those machines!)
- Stretching
- Strength exercises.
- Joint supplements (chondroitin/glucosamine)
Good luck, I know how bad it can get.0 -
I recommend going to a chiropractor. A good one.
A good chiropractor will do a full workup on you, including x-rays before ever laying a hand on you. They will come up with a treatment plan that will most likely involve some form of physical therapy. If the chiro you visit does NOT do this, and just wants to start cracking your back, run away quickly.
I was in a car accident when I was 16. Suffered from debilitating headaches for almost a decade, seeing my doctor dozens of times about it. Each time I was handed some pills and sent on my way. Went to a good chiro, and within 4 months, he corrected the root of the problem.0 -
I understand what you are going through, I have been dealing with back pain now for almost 15 years. I have two slipped discs that go in opposite directions and pull on the spinal chord. There is no ABSOLUTE correction for my injury and have standing prescriptions for pain killers which I have refused to take unless absolutely necessary.
Of course as others have stated, please go see a back specialist first to rule out some obvious things.
that said, here is what I have done.
Find a good Chiropractor in your area. Someone who is extremely reputable and check in with them as well. As stated by my GP, "In medical school we get limited training on diagnosing and treating back injuries, Chiropractors have studied pain management and spinal injuries their whole career."
I found that with a Dr.'s prescription (which oddly enough I was able to get with relative ease) I could get massage therapy for simply a 20 dollar co-pay. (60 minutes for $20 . . . Sweet!)
Please understand that I am no way in the medical profession, just someone who is in your shoes and doesn't like the traditional methods of taking medications to mask the problem.0 -
I prolapsed two disks in 2003, and I've had bouts of chronic pain ever since. Three years ago I went to doctor and was given really strong pain killers, I've been taking them ever since.
What helped me is ditch the bed, they are all too soft, sleep on a board or the floor, (10mm foam mattress until you get used to it) Keep pestering your doctors until the swap your meds for something that works, it may take a few goes, but eventually you'll find one that works for you at lower doses.
Recently I started 10 weeks of Pilates, and worked on my core strength. Much as I hated going to the classes, it worked well enough that I could come off the meds and join a gym so I can keep adding to my core strength.
Do not go under any circumstance to a Chiropractor/quack witch doctor, at best it will do nothing, and at worse you’ll end up crippled for life.
Anyone who suggests a Chiropractor is an idiot or a Chiropractor.
A 2009 review evaluating maintenance chiropractic care found that spinal manipulation is routinely associated with considerable harm and no compelling evidence exists to indicate that it adequately prevents symptoms or diseases, thus the risk-benefit is not evidently favorable

I had back problems since I was a teenager from a car accident. I went to doctors, and chiropractors, but never could get rid of the problem. Every time I did something physical, my back would go out. I finally went to a physical therapist. It took a few months but I haven't had any problems in over two years!0

I feel your pain. A while back I had tendinitis in my left knee and I had to see a physiotherapist for 3 months. It took me almost a year to recover. Go to a different doctor, get some chiropractor or physiotherapist to look at your back. New x-rays maybe. Don't give up, if the meds are helping just keep it up.0

I would make an appointment with a reputable orthopedist (especially one that specializes in back problems) and have a thorough evaluation. Find out what physiologically is causing the pain. Is it nerve damage? Is it misalignment of the vertabrate? Is something pressing on a nerve? etc. Then find out what are the options for correcting that issue and finally ... ACT on those options. Eighteen is way too young to be sidelined with back problems.
If there is no damage, you may want to look into exercises that strengthen the core. Be sure to include the spinal muscles as well as the abdominal muscles. When looking at programs to strengthen the core, a lot of people ignore the spinal muscles which is a HUGE mistake. I used to have some back issues ... though certainly nothing like what you are dealing with ... and doing daily bridges have been a HUGE help for me!
Good luck! I really hope you are able to correct whatever is causing your pain!0 -
I had a herniated disc 3 years ago. A chiropractor helped A LOT! (I couldn't walk for 3 weeks till he straightened me out). Saw him for about a year and healed to about 70% then I started seeing a DO (doctor of osteopathy) and he helped get me to about 90%. I still have pain now and then depending on my level of activity but the DO was really great and I didn't have to see him as often as I was seeing the chiropractor (once a month vs once a week). Now I think I just need to lose weight and get my muscles stronger to support my back. Good luck to you!0
