Yesderday, i was prescribed adipex, I am 5'7 190 pounds, i took it before I had my son 5 years ago and i work out constantly and I eat the right food but the actual weight is not coming off. People tell me I don't look like I weight that much becuase I have a lot of muscle that is true, i do have that but the fat is not coming off of the muscle. I want to try this at least until the Summer and see how it does, I have another PT test in July where I have to Run and do pushup and situp in a certain amount of time....if anyone has any suggestions or tips or have taken them recently, please inform and give me your honest opinion?

  • Are you concerned that you will not pass height/weight? If so, do you pass the tape test? I have been doing the Eat Clean Diet since Jan 4, 2010. I took my measurements this morning... I lost 2 inches frm hips, 2 1/2 frm waist, 2 frm bust..... and I have lost 11 lbs. I workout once a day.. just doing cardio and some push ups and ab work.

Frm your pix and your height/weight you are not obese.....

I do not agree with pills to help lose weight. Take a look at the Eat clean diet... Please.. It has done wonders for me.

I was prescribed Adipex last Friday. I've never taken anything before so I was kind of nervous. My Dr. wanted me to try it because I've been eating right, working out, and journaling it all for 2 years and nothing. I'm 5'3" and when I started taking it Saturday, I was 166.6 lbs. (I am also told that I don't look like I weigh that much...the right clothes work wonders:laugh: ) Today I'm 159.6 and it hasn't been a week yet! (I haven't seen the 150's in years) She told me that I should take them first thing in the morning, 30 min. before I eat breakfast b/c they give you a ton of energy and if you take them too late, you'll be up all night. That is sooo true. I took it Sunday around 9am b/c I slept in....I could not go to sleep that night. So, I would definitely suggest keeping them on your nightstand with water and taking them as soon as you wake up. They also make me very thirsty so I am getting all of my water in and usually by the middle of the day. You will probably need to remind yourself to eat b/c they really, really suppress your hunger. I was afraid that they may make my heart race like I've heard some weight loss meds do, but I keep my HRM on all day, and nothing. My HR has been normal but I have noticed that my I burn more calories doing my normal activities.

Sorry for so much info. I hope it helps.

Just a quick question . . . do you do the same cardio everyday?
When I read your post, something that was said to me by our old personal trainer came to mind. He told us that if you do the same thing everyday or every time you work out, your body will become complacent.

He had us start out on the treadmill on a 10 incline as fast as we could go for 5 min to warm up
Then we went to the elliptical with moderate resistance for 5 minutes
Then the recumbent bike for 4 min (a break) w/ moderate resistance
Then the treadmill for 5 at a moderate incline/same speed as before
Back to the elliptical to repeat the cycle (as many times as needed to reach your desired amount of time) each time increase the resistance/incline keep your body guessing)

    Just a thought, FWIW
I'll be doing that tonight, provided the gym isn't as crowded as it was Tuesday night.

It actually was my GYN but she also does a Dr. assisted weight loss program. She doen't recommend them for everyone, but she's privy to my medical history and situation. She gave me the eating plan that her program uses, in addition to the Adipex to accelerate the results and maintain them once I'm of the meds. It is not covered by ins but I only paid $26 for 30 days worth of the generic. (at her suggestion)

Really, you look good, but I kno the height difference makes the weight look different but you look good. I took my first dose this morning at 5:00 am and I am doing good so far, i made me an egg white vege meal for breakfast. My doctor did give me what I need to eat, how much I need to exercise and what I need to do to maintain the weight loss if any at all. I will see....I am wanting to get back in the 160's that all...No that was all good information, Are you working out?

I am working out something simililar to that, at my lunch hour I go with some Reserve buddies and we do situp/pushup and weights, but that is a good 30 minutes for me to get out of the office, but after work is when i get my cardio in, I do the treadmill for 60 min on hill incline setting and it says i burn over 700 calories, I only can stay on there for the entire 60 minutes b/c my gym they have like monitors attached to each machine with cable or i can use my ipod and watch movies, so its easy for me to stay on the treadmill for sometime more than 60 minutes...so I workout good during the week, its my weekends that kill me

Hi ladies! First of all - u all look great ;) Just wanted to know what adipex is? I'm 5'3" and over 200 lbs....my dr says that he does NOT suggest a prescription diet pill. I have a fatty liver - which can be caused by a lot of things - obesity, rapid weight LOSS or GAIN, use of certain otc drugs like tylenol etc and including the fat burners i have taken over the years. I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs....so basically the only thing bad i have going for me is that i'm way overweight (although some may not think i look obese). Anyway, dr says that the only prescription drugs out there for weight loss may actually be more harmful to my liver than being overweight. So, i'm curious about this adipex and what it does ;) Thanks!

Hi coltsfam! Adipex-P is a brand of phentermine also known as "the good half" of the recalled diet med Fen-Phen. I would definitely advise you to stick with whatever your Dr. says b/c he knows your medical history best. As I mentioned before, the only reason my Dr. prescribed it is b/c she has treated me for a looong time and knows my history as well as my tolerance for meds.

Adipex suppresses your appetite, which is great if you're a snacker like me. It also gives you crazy energy which will help you get through workouts.

angelawhaley- hope your appt goes well

Tosca has also written the Eat Clean Diet Cookbook. Good stuff. She's a columnist for Oxygen magazine and often has great recipes there also.

I started taking adipex this past Saturday after a co-worker raved about how great it made her feel. As of Monday I've lost 3 llbs (since Thursday when I went to the doctor). In addition to taking adipex I am, of course, exercising and watching what I eat (something I've never really done before). Also, I have cut out all sodas from my diet. i;m not sure if it is just the adipex, or a combonation of all of these things, but today I felt absolutely fantastic working out. Normally I do 20 - 25 minutes on the elliptical, 30 on a good day. Today I went 50, a could have went an whole hour if my mom wasn't waiting on me. My RPMs were much higher and I wasn't anywhere as close to how out of breath I normally get.

I'm curious about those who have taken this longer, a month or so perhaps.... Any problems? Suggestions?

Someone was saying to take before you eat... my doctor (and paperwork) said to eat breakfast first, wait 2 hours, take pill, wait 30 minutes and then eat again...
