  • I feel like no one explained the muscle VS fat thing very well.

"People often say that muscle weighs more than fat, but that is a misstatement. Muscle is actually more dense than fat, so a pound of muscle takes up less space than fat. Another way to look at fat versus muscles is that a cubic inch of muscle will weigh more than a cubic inch of fat. Muscle is about 18 percent more dense than fat."

    another explanation:

"...if your weight stayed exactly the same and we theortecially took off 5 lbs of fat from you and replaced it with 5 lbs of muscle, you would weigh exactly the same, but because muscle is more "dense" than fat, the 5 lbs of muscle takes up less space and so you would appear slightly leaner and/or thinner."

I thought that was what I was saying, but maybe not as clearly... i.e. I was 120 last summer wearing a size 6 with 24% body fat and in November was 130 pounds wearing a size 2 with 18% body fat. I appeared smaller in my after pictures, even though I gained weight, because I dropped body fat. It's an amazing concept that I quite like.

It amazes me how people of the same weight/height range are different sizes. it just proves size is just another irrelevant number.

    Height: 5'4
    SW: 180, pants size 10
    CW: 155, pants size 8.

Remember, everyone. It's not just weight and body fat percentage. It's where you carry the weight!

I am a size 4 pant (5'3" and 117 lbs). I've always had to weigh less than others to have the same size. Here is why--I carry most of my weight between my shoulders and upper thighs. I have a decent sized bustline and curvy hips with a fairly small waist. But because my arms and legs are just plain skinny, and always have been, my pant size is larger than others with similar height and weight. I was looking in the mirror today, and thought to myself--if I just covered up my torso and judged my size on my limbs, I would be considered tiny! But my torso is just average-small! Even reducing bodyfat percentage will only help so much!

So, am I going to be upset by the fact that I don't have a small torso? NO! I'm accpepting the fact that it is my hereditary shape, and I'm not unhappy with it. I do, however, want to continue to lose body fat percentage, if it will come off my mid-section, just because I know that is healthier.

    5ft 3 in
    226: size 16-18
    200: size 14
    185-190: size 12
    145-150: 9

It amazes me how body types and body fat % really affect what size you wear. I've seen alot of people on here same height and weight as me with such different size pants! Just goes to show how different we all really are!

Starting - 5'4" 263lbs size 24W pants (but really should have been wearing 26W)

Now - 5'4" 230lbs size 24W pants (but can now finally button/zip a 22W, though that size is still too tight)

    At 5'4" 135lbs I was size 16 pants

This thread is proof of the "large frame" issue that some on MFP claim doesn't exist! :ohwell:

I can't do more than a couple of pages. It seems no one has hips as wide as mine.

It's just a number, I know. But it would be nice if even ONE other person came close to me. :frown:
  • I'm 5'4", starting weight 135 pants size 6 27.4% body fat
Current weight 125 pants size 2 19.3% body fat

I may have only lost 10 pounds (all I really wanted) but I dropped 8.1% body fat. I am happy with that.

    5'4'' - 143 lb might be a 7 now....I haven't tried new clothes yet :-/

    Goal size: 5/6

I don't really have a defined weight or fat% goal, so I guess until I look good naked I'll keep striving for improvement ;-)

    5'4 and a bit
    163 pounds
I average out to a size 12 in everything now, dresses, pants, skirts and jeans. But not a loose size 12. A dicey, somewhat snug 12. I figure at around 150 pounds I'll be a 'real' 12 and squeezing my butt into everything that is a size 10.

When I'm at my proper weight (anywhere in the 120s), I average out to a size 6 with some 4s and 8s here and there.

Edit: Oh yeah, and when I started, I was 232 and a size 3x shirt and skirt. Pants? What are those?

5'4 and 137 lbs. I wear a 4-6 . The only reason I can get into a 4 is because I am an avid runner
    and have no *kitten*.

I'm 5' 5" and weigh 146. I wear a size 10 in American Eagles. I don't think this is a good way to compare. Everyone has different body shapes!
  • Height: 5'4"

Goal is around 140-150 lbs or a size 10. I've got a ways to go, but I'm going to do it this time!
When I got married at age 20, I was 130 lbs. and a size 9. Looking back, I was too thin and got sick a lot. Passed out occasionally as well.
These size 0's just floor me!

Squats and lunges. I had a small booty until I started doing those and now I have so epants that don't fit only because my butt is too big...but I'm not complaining! I also LOVE running!

SW: 178 pants size 14 ( I was squeezing into my 12's .... but probably should have went a size up)

CW: 158 pants size 12 (comfortably ... a little loose... just a little)

GW: 130 pants size 8 (I'm a big bottomed girl lol) I will be an XS/S top at that point.
