The Adventure Begins........

My dietician told me about this website today. Today was my first visit. She said "So.....what brings you here today?" and I burst into tears! So embarrassing! My mother was a compulsive eater, and her mother was a compulsive eater..........and here I am. 100 lbs. overweight. I don't eat because I'm hungry. I eat because it's time, or I'm bored, or I'm stressed, or it's been offered to me. I am a member of TOPS (my husband calls it Taking On Pounds Sociably). lol So I do have to face that scale each week. I need that kind of support. I can't do this alone. I know that. I hope to make lots of friends here. P.S. I can't believe I actually posted a fat picture of myself on here!!!! Yikes!

it's great that you posted your true self, then you have some thing to compare yourself to later, when you are thinner! Congratulations for taking the first step to becoming a healthier you. I too struggle with eating for no apparent good reason. I started my life changing journey in July and have only lost a few pounds since then, but I feel so much healthier and have more energy. So my advice to you is....don't just focus on the numbers, but notice all the subtle changes in your health for encouragement to continue. Good Luck0

I'm glad you have decided to give MFP a try. Don't just try it though. Log Everything. Good days. Bad Days. You can learn from what you're logging on those bad days. I keep a journal and try to figure out what triggers the binges besides the need to feed my emotions as well as what I do here.
Instead of saying Good Luck, I'll say this. Work hard at it. You Can Do It.0 -
You are in the right place, with the right people.
We all have a story to tell, and yours is as individual as you are. We welcome everyone's story.
I have some tips from the time I have been here (not that long)
Be honest with yourself, with what you eat/drink/exercise (after all you only cheat you)
Take starting measurements of your body parts (it helps when you think you are not losing weight, but are actually gaining muscle mass)
Be realistic. (I want to be 70kgs (150lbs) but that will NEVER happen! So, Ill take 85kgs (180lbs))
Be healthy. (Lose 1-1.5lbs a week)
Weigh yourself once a week only. (Its something to look forward to)
If you fall off the wagon on one day, get back on the next. (This is where this place comes in - they are awesome people)
If you have a smart phone, install the app. (Mobility helps me no end)
Find an exercise that you like and do it with other people. (I cycle miles, but in the gym, we all die on the stationary bikes together)
Number one rule - Be patient. If you are, you will see dividends and it will all be your own doing. Because, you have made the right first step by realising that you want to do this.
Good luck :flowerforyou:0
