I am technology free besides a basic cell phone and computer, so which heart rate monitor/calorie counter should I use to track my calories burned?

If you're looking to track elapsed time, heart rate & calories burned the Polar FT series are hard to beat. The FT4 and FT7 are two affordable and popular models, quite a few MFP members seem to like them.0

I have the Polar FT4. After my workout I push a little button and it tells me how long my workout was (minutes and seconds) and calories burned. Perfect! It comes with the chest strap. I got it online for about $60.0

I have the Polar FT4 also and it's really simple to use.0

FT4 here too. I wear it for my workouts. For the rest of the day I have my Fitbit.0

I use a Garmin 305 also includes a GPS so it does pacing and I can upload my runs to the website and it maps it out for me shows pacing, HR, Elevation ect ect. Its a nice tool if you excercise outdoors. Cant wait for mine to die to get the Garmin 410 its sleeker looks more like a regular watch.0

I use a Schwinn 810 GPS + HRM. It was the cheapest Chest strap HRM that included GPS functionality that I could find. It was only $70, and works great., considering other GPS+HRM devices are over $150.0

I recently bought the Polar FT7 - LOVE IT!!! I got it on Amazon for about $72 with free shipping. Much cheaper than in the stores. It does everything I need, and is simply to use (if you are technologically challenged)0

I use a Polar FT40 and I LOVE it! I dont want to do any kind of workout without it. Also as a plus, it has a user-replaceable batter, which some of the other models do not have. I havent had to replace it yet, but I would HATE to have to send it away to have the battery replaced.0

I have a Polar HRM watch I've been using for 6+ years now.0

Love my Polar FT7!0

I agree! POLAR F4 rocks. You simply cannot get an accurate calorie burn without a chest strap to monitor heart rate!0

I use a Garmin Edge 800. Yes, a lot of money, but real cycling porn!0

I love my Polar FT70

I gave up my Polar HRM. It was making me stress over calories burned.
I used it for about 6 months.0 -
I was just thinking about this today! Thanks for asking the question and for all of the great responses! :happy:0

I have a Sigma 10.11, I think it's fantastic, particularly because it wasn't too expensive and it is very easy to use. It was NZ$70, not sure if they have them in the states.0

FT4 here too. I wear it for my workouts. For the rest of the day I have my Fitbit.
Ditto - exactly...0 -
Love my Polar FT40. In addition to having the user-changeable battery, it also does a resting heart rate test to estimate your VO2 max which makes it more accurate than models that just use your gender, height, and weight.0

Garmin 405 CX. My wife gave it to me for Christmas, and I really like it. I like the web interface; I really like the maps, for example. It beeps on the mile and gives me my time for the last mile. I wasn't crazy about the chest strap, but now I only notice it much. I do have to tighten it about every two weeks, because I've been losing weight. Face is big enough to read time or HR as I run.
It's far stingier that this site on calories burned, and since I'm eating them back (or drinking them back) I'm going with MFP numbers for that.0 -
I just got an FT40 =] LOVE IT!0

i use a Polar FT60 and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! it runs for about $140 and i love being able to get an accurate calorie burn count with the chest strap and transmitter.0

I scored on a $19 one in the clearance aisle at walmart...say what you will ..it's pretty darn close to my fit bit counting steps AND I did my heart rate via another website and it's pretty damn close to there too..and it's a watch. I LOVE it.0
