Building a squat rack?

Could my husband build me a squat rack? If so, how would he go about doing that? What materials would he need to use? I figure it might be cheaper than buying one, because all the ones I looked at were pretty pricey.

Here are plans for a wooden one. I would still recommend buying, not building.

I'd second the craigslist suggestion. He could build one if he wanted to:

Thanks guys!0

Unless your husband is really, really handy, buying a used rack is such a better option. I'm in LA, so it's a ridiculously large, fitness oriented market and I know it's not representative of the rest of the country. But there is a used rack on sale here for $90, a power rack for $300, and rack with full set of bumper plates for $650.
I would hold tight and keep checking for something like that in your area. Heck, I might even place an add. If your rack isn't ONE HUNDRED PERCENT sturdy and reliable it could lead to a terrible, terrible mishap. I'm not sure I'd want to use a wooden one no matter how it was built.0 -
I saw a few homemade squat racks for sale on craigslist in my area once. I would not recommend it unless it is made of welded steel! Check on craigslist regularly, you will eventually find one for a good price. I have seen some as low as $200.0

If you need to ask us how to build a squat rack and what materials you need, then I would not suggest having your husband build one. He would need to have known all that info already. I understand because my husband is a physicist and he designs and builds large machinery, so when he offers to build something it is because he already knows how to do it and has all of the resources available through his work.0

I would be ok with my boyfriend building me a squat rack and hope he will some day... but he is a framer and builds houses for a living. Lol.0
