Produce codes

Because of the other thread about genetically modified foods I figured I would post the codes so you know what you are buying. You may think your eating a lot of GMO foods but you are probably not.

If your fruit or vegtable has a four digit code starting with a 3 or 4 it is a conventionally grown food.
If it has a 5 digit number starting with a 9 it's organic
If it has a five digit number starting with an 8 it's a GMO food.

Happy Shopping!

    Really relevant bit:

"Consumers should be aware, however, that PLU codes are an option which is used for the convenience of suppliers and grocers and not customers, so not all produce (particularly genetically modified varieties) are so labeled, and other sources of information may be better for distinguishing the differences between various forms of produce."
