rest day or straight for 30 day shred

I have seen people say both tings for the 30 day shred. I have done 4 days now, and I am conflicted on if I should do it tomorrow or just do a 5 mile leslie sanstone walk and pick up the shred on Saturday? To this who have done it with rest days, did you see really good results? I still have a lot to lose also. Any comments or suggestions?

I only started today and really wanna do it as intended everyday although I think ill be staying on level 1 a bit longer than the reccomended 10 days as I'm 222lb and very unfit .. In my opinion try and do it but if you feel u need a rest day take it. I'm trying to not as if I do ill never get back into it good luck with the program0

2 days of 30DS one day cardio 2 days of 30 DS and one cardio then a rest day. She said the name was more so what her marketing people came up with since each level is meant to be 10 days (just not 10 straight) thats marketing for you!
Not saying not to do 30 days straight if you want but she was very adamant about how important it is to have a rest day. Just thought I'd let you all know :-)0 -

I saw that same post, but after going through the video (level 1), Jillian breaks everything up into 2-3 minute sections, and ends up working pretty much everything. She also keeps insisting we stick with it as it's taking place of going to the gym daily. I am going to try doing it every day, possibly though doing each level for 30 days as I need to really build up some endurance before going to the 2nd etc.0 -
I'm that original poster. :-) I did both ways and saw better results Jillian's way... However people seem to do it both ways :-) I am doing it again (I reset my timer because I got thrown off when my grandpa passed suddenly and we moved far away, don had surgery etc )
I don't think she has a problem with the other way, she just said it was meant to be done the way I posted :-) choose what's best for you, some find the day off makes it hard to go back. If that's the case it's probably better to not rest as much and let your body recover as much. (Than stopping and never going back) I had WAY more noticeable results (pics, weight, inches) the other way though and studied physical fitness so I prefer to allow my body to rest a bit like it should :-)0 -
I started the Shred hellbent on doing it every day. As a mother to a 3 yr old, role model to my bf's kids (11&7), full time worker, and full time college student... LIFE HAPPENS! lol It took me 14 days to complete Level 1. I'm now on Level 2 Day 2. Here were my results as posted on my blog:
Days on MFP- 32
HW= 212 ish
SW= 205 ish CW= 190.4
Started 30DS= Sept. 4, 2012
Loss to Date= 14.6 lbs
Loss since starting 30DS= 7 lbs
Measurements Aug. 28, 2012=
Bust= 42.5
R Arm= 13.5
Hips= 46.5
Waist= 38.5
R Thigh= 28.5
Calves= 16 1/4
R Forearm= 11 1/4
Neck= 14
Measurements Sept. 17, 2012
Bust= 41
R. Arm= 13.5
Hips= 46
Waist=37
R. Thigh= 27 3/4
Calves= 17(WTF)
R. Forearm= 11
Neck= 13.5
You'll notice my starting measurements were taken 7 days prior to starting 30DS, but I did absolutely NO exercise during that time. (Lazy me, I know!) 30DS was the only real exercise I've done in years, and dear lord was it obvious for the first 4-5 days of the Shred!
If you're a beginner (like me), I would DEFINITELY recommend a rest day every now and again. My legs were so fatigued after day 4 or 5, but after a rest day I came back at it like a champ!0 -
I did it 5 days a week for the full 30 days. I lost 13 lbs and I continued to do it in March until my weight hit a standstill. I have just got back to doing that and also the Banish Fat Boost Metabolism dvd too. Only this time since I am doing both dvds I am just going to do the 30DS 3 days a week and the other one 7 days a week and sometimes 5 days week.0

Rest is extremely important. EXTREMELY important. Consider getting appropriate rest as one of the parameters of your plan. Say you should be taking one rest day a week, but you skip it. If your workout would have been, say, 500 calories, it would take 7 weeks for those workouts to equate to a single pound lost. During those 7 weeks, for the cost of 1 lb, you are risking injury, forcing yourself through a mental grind, and not allowing yourself proper time to repair the muscle you're tearing down. Why would you do that to yourself?
I personally take 2 days a week as a minimum.0 -
Thanks for your thoughts. I never have planned "rest days" but will just do less serious program some days. I think I will just do a leslie sanstone 5 mile walk today and pick up the shred again tomorrow, but I am a little scared it will totally kick my butt tomorrow, but maybe that is good?0

I am on day 9 of level one. I started Sept. 12th. I think taking 1 or 2 days off a week to rest is going to help me. I will just do a nice brisk walk instead. Good Luck!0

I have to take rest days every few days, and Im not in a mad rush to get to the 30 days end. I want to keep momentum this round and not get burned out like prior times.0

I just did 3 days then rested for one and felt so much better yesterday on my 4th. My legs were so sore day 2 and 3 (felt good tho!). I stand and walk for 9 hours a day for work so I really needed to let them relax a little for practicalities sake. My 4th workout was great. I found I could keep up with everything!0

Thanks guys! I've just done 6 days in a row of Level 1 and was starting to get a bit bored of doing the same thing every day!!! I think I'll go for a nice swim tomorrow instead now0

I would say every other day if you are really busting it on the push ups, dumbell presses and weighted lunges. It would be counter productive to keep hitting those muscles every single day. On the off days, do something else that doesnt involve resistence for those muscles
If you are using small weights like Jillian uses and not really doing many pushups, every day would be ok because you arent really tearing the muscle fibers0 -
Does anyone have the actual source where she says you shouldn't do it every day? I came across: 2 days 30ds, 1 day cardio, 2 days 30ds, 1 day cardio, rest.0

If your'e still going to exercise on your shred "off" days I'm betting you'll still see fabulous results.0
