I fell down the stairs yesterday and sprained my ankle pretty bad. I feel like I'm going to be off my feet for awhile, but I'm still looking for possible ways to burn calories.
Has anyone been in this situation?

I sprained my ankle last spring and I am still having problems with it. The emotional part of not being able to do things was very tough. Hang in there.
To keep moving at least a little bit, I did what stretches I could while sitting in my chair. Lifting light weights from the chair helped too.
Once I was able to move at least a little, I found I could do a pilates dvd that I have. I could not do the whole thing, but I was able to do the side lying part because it did not require any weight on my foot. It involved alot of raised leg circles. It helped strengthen my ankle muscles so I was not as prone to re injury once I was out of the cast all of the time.
Hope this helps.0 -
I slightly sprained my ankle a little while ago, and the stationary bike and the elliptical at the gym were great substitutes for me. And i didn't find yoga as an issue too much unless we were doing poses with a lot of pressure on the feet.
I originally upset about the injury, but then I realized that I'm glad for it now. that's because it forced me to try new things. so it was a nice break up in my regular routine, which I know you need to switch things up every now and then.
Just don't do anything that causes pain because you want your ankle to heal as quickly as possible! hope you feel better soon! :flowerforyou:0 -
I just thought of another thing I did. I actually did "push offs" (push ups) off the wall from a standing position and standing only on my good leg. I had to become pretty creative. My sprain was bad enough I was in a air cast for almost 3 months and had to keep it elevated or it would swell up. Honestly, I try to forget some of those days. I did manage to do alot of knitting and reading though. I'll post more as I think of it.
Listen to your body and don't push it too far. It may do more damage or cause it to take longer to heal. I was reminded of that over and over.. (It is not that I am stubborn or anything. lol. I just have things to do!)0 -
Upper body strength training. You can google search seated chair exercises, which are great if you are unable to do other kinds of cardio.0
