Body shape index and a bit more

The 'newest' piece of scientific literature says that BMR by itself isn't a good measure of health and weight status. So, I was surfing and reading up on it and stumbled on this site. The calculator lets you figure out your Body Shape Index (ABSI).

Now as to what the results mean, I am still working on understanding that - the calculator has a couple of embedded links to literature about it. But in another discussion on a public health group I found another link I thought was interesting. The author of this site has collected all sorts of recent literature etc. on obesity and weight so I thought I would pass it on.

@roeann53:
The calculator provides your ABSI score, the average for your age/gender, and the standard deviation for your age/gender. In the original paper, the authors stated that if your ABSI score is more than one unit of standard deviation above the average, you had a significantly increased chance of mortality related to obesity.
Example - if your score was 0.090, the mean for your age was 0.070 and the standard deviation was 0.010 - that means you are above the average by 0.020. That is more than the standard deviation, so you would be in the high risk category.
I hope that helps,
Jason
