Difficult times and drowning!! Help me!

I am going through a very personal and difficult time in my life right now. I am a beginner (since high school and never worked out before in my life!) with my second weigh-in tomorrow morning. I feel that I may have gained instead of losing weight due to falling back into eating "bad" foods to compensate for my current situation. If ever I need support it is now!!! I need to lose 60 pounds...some advice please!!!

Don't panic. If you have a bad day today, log it and move on. Start again tomorrow. And, I don't know if you are doing any exercise, but find an exercise that makes you feel good when you have finished it (even if it is just a brisk walk). Exercise can be a great stress reliever, and a way to clear your mind. Plus, the extra calories you burn will help offset your calories consumed in the event you go over your daily goal.

Whatever it is, you can get through it without totally derailing your weight loss. You can do this.

Even if you fall sometimes try to stay on track and keep logging in. I hope that your situation gets better soon but until then keep on getting through the day with your good habits. And that at the end of the day, you can look back on for the day and be happy that you acomplished something that was good for YOU!!! Get the work out in and raise your endorphins so the bad stuff is easier to deal with. Good luck with everything and don't be too hard on yourself!!

Don't beat yourself up over gaining a few pounds, or eating something you were not supposed to. It happens to everyone. The best thing to do is just get back on track as soon as you can and put this behind you. So when you go into your weigh in, before you step on the scales, tell yourself that this does not define who you are or what you will become in the future. You weight is just a number and does not dictate who loves and cares for you, who your friends are or anything else.

I think you should also make a plan on dealing with personal issues that cause you to eat and find other things you can do when you feel overwhelmed besides eating.

Good luck today, keep your head up and dont forget you got this.
  • I went through a very difficult time last year - right at this time of year. Prior to that I had lost about 35 pounds & felt great. I share only to help you... but my then 7 year old son was in a mental hospital for 2 months, missed over 3 months of school - and we spent the rest of the spring semester slowly getting him back into a program that works for him. All the while I was working full time - but had to do some FMLA. I also have a daughter who is 3 years younger.

I gained back most, but not all of the weight. And I KNOW that the emotional/psychological stuff can really take a beating on your body. All I can speak to is my personal growth - and what I have learned is that working out helps my brain stay sane, eating healthy helps my brain & emotions. I thought that the "soul food" was helping - but too much sugar & starch made my emotions more out of control in handling the crisis.

I have also learned to meditate - preferably daily. It has helped me with breathing through times during the day that I find my stomach in knots - and it really grounds my thought processes that drive my emotions. Meditation Oasis has a lot of great guided meditations - they have tons of free guided meditations available at the iTunes store.

The fact that you are reaching out is amazing - and great! Keep it up.

Finally - your life is a marathon - not a sprint. Forgive yourself every time you misstep - it's going to happen. Love yourself first - and get up the next hour, next day, next week - and take a deep breath. You are worth it - and you can be healthy. In fact, you already are getting there. Just keep going.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed, get excited instead :)

I cant wait til the next time the scale surprises me with something good!

I cant wait until I can run for xx minutes without stopping!

I cant wait until I can see such and such changes in the mirror.

Im so excited that Im starting a new fresh light happy healthy life!

Im so happy I finally get to be the woman I always wanted to be!

I love eating beautiful healthy food and I LOVE being exhausted and worn out after a workout.

The things in my life now allow me to have a personal sense of pride that no one can take from me.

^ Be excited. Love what you are doing for yourself.

Just the fact that you care so much and are trying no matter what - means you have already succeeded. Means you always have a fitness-oriented mindset - which makes you a healthy influence on others.

You care. You are amazing. You are awake ♥

First thing is an echo of what everyone else has said...if you have a bad day/week, you just get back on track and don't beat yourself up. It happens...life happens. For me, I do find getting out to the park and walking/running around to be very therapuetic. Losing myself in nature and my iPod helps relieve some stress and you can't ever feel bad about yourself after you have worked out. That sense of accomplishment stays with me all day and helps carry into making better food choices.

Hope this helps and I hope everything gets better!
