Alternatives to Carbohydrates?

Options
Dived into my tea,was very hungry and realised after that it was terribly bread based, always is ,brown bread that is. Had 1 slice of brown toast,2 sandwiches in brown bread (onion, tomatoe, turkey),a small slice of apple tart ,a scone with jam and well that was it. I sometimes have mushrooms, well often have mushrooms but not for tea today. Ok I usually wouldn't have the scone or apple tart, certainly don't usually have both,I was just unusually hungry today. Am tempted to go bullimic,I have been slightly bullimic the past 6 months or so when I realise I've eaten badly. I'm so fit but my diet is too carbohydrate based.

Can anyone offer suggestions as to alternative tea time meals?

Would I feel tired without carbohydrates? trying to broaden my diet,it aint easy, not helped by not eating red meat for conscience reasons.

Thanks

Z

Just remember that you do need carbs. Carbs are essential to us. But there are healthier carb options you could go for. Green veggies, beans and legumes, fruits, seeds, things high in fiber are all great healthy carb options. For your tea, I suggest maybe a fruit that you really love.

I'm experimenting with smoothies. I typically skip the banana due to the huge sugar and carb count. I use flax seed or oat bran. Turns out like a cereal bar shake. Sounds weird unless you think cookies and cream shake with berries.

I have type 2 diabetes so I watch carbs like a hawk on a bunny. Stay with whole grain foods. Its a tough transition but worth it in the long run.

    Evening is by far the best time to eat carbs (apart from post workout) but bread is a poor choice;

Eat some white rice and sweet potatoes but also get in some protein and fats - chilli is an awesome evening meal, make it with lean mince, lots of veg (tomatoes, onion, celery, sweetcorn & jalpenos) and a massive 150g rice with full fat cheese.

You might want to go lower on the rice but you won't want to eat any bread after... that's for sure!

You need to speak to a professional. Disordered eating is a symptom of disordered thinking. Please get help.

I'm being honest yes I've been just a little bit bullimic, just a bit,due to lack a broadly developed diet. Yes sounds alarming,it's only been the past few months and not much but yes......what would a doctor tell me though? The disordered thinking is too much importance placed on weight and inability to develope a broad diet that I'm comfortable with....I'm extremely fit but food hasn't been great.

Honey, a doctor can help you come up with a sensible eating plan that incorporates all of your dietary and nutritional needs. A doctor can also refer you to a psychologist who can help you explore your relationship with food, your self image problems and disordered thinking around being "just a little bit bulimic". Bingeing and gorging, then purging, even if it only happens now and then, is still disordered eating. Please seek help.

Actually he would probably talk to you more to find out what is happening in your life that you feel as though what goes into your body is the only thing you have the ability to control- and therefore become so obsessed with it that you would voluntarily, on a regular-ish basis- go through the trouble of reversing your digestive tract to flow blackwards and eff up your body :)

There's no such thing as a "little bulimic". If you're purging, that's bulimia. You may be in the early stages of it, but you're definitely headed down a wrong road. You need to seek treatment (since it's early, you may be fine with outpatient treatment). Part of that treatment would include work with a nutritionist that could help you set up a manageable diet. But if you are so concerned about the effects of food on your body that you would make yourself throw up to get rid of what you've eaten...that's a problem. Do something about it now while it's still early. The longer you let it go, the more entrenched those wrong ideas become, making recovery that much more difficult. If you're not sure where to turn, go see your regular doctor and explain to him/her that you've been engaging in bulimic behaviors and ask for a referral to an eating disorders specialist and a nutritionist/dietitian.

If YOU cannot develop a food plan that is working for you, then please at LEAST seek the advice of a nutritionist, if not a mental healthcare professional for the bullimic tendencies.
Also, if you are really fit, check out websites that focus on fitness and have menu plans and get ideas from there.

Tossing your cookies because you ate too many carbs, even though you're already extremely fit, is disordered eating and disordered thinking. Carbs are not the devil. Some people are sensitive to them, but if you are extremely fit and you eat them regularly, you are not.

As others said, see a doctor. Bulimia -- even "just a little bit" -- is a disease.

I'll tell my Gp at next appointment,am scheduled to see her in 3 weeks for an injection. There's actually a reason beyond basic health as to why I'm concerned enough about body weight, but it belongs elsewhere.

Fruits and veggies are also carbohydrates... they are natural and not "simple" so your body "likes" them more. Your body knows to turn all foods into "energy" aka carbohydrates so you really don't need any processed grains/starches. Stick to fruits and veggies and you'll see what I'm talking about :)
