Coffee Creamers

I'm addicted to my coffee creamers - not just cream either, the flavored creamers. International Delight, you get the idea! A few weeks ago I realized my creamer habit was adding 300 calories a day because I use so much! Since then I have cut back to half a cup of coffee per day, but still put (3x the serving size) 3 tablespoons in it. That alone almost puts me over my sugar for the day.

I do not do artificial sweeteners.......has anybody tried anything else in their coffee that tastes as good but is less sugar?

You could try some natural honey. I'm not sure how much sugar it would add but it is natural sugar, which this site does not separate from other sugars. Or you could switch to hot tea which has the same amount of caffeine. Hope this helps!
  • Couple suggestions:
    1) go to powder creamer where you watch fat (most have almost 0 or .5) and very little carbs/sugar
    2) add cinnamon to your coffee when brewing or after for additional taste
    3) buy the sugar free flavored shots - I recently purchased 2 bottles of sugare free caramel and vanilla from starbucks; you add a shot or two to your coffee and that helps; then add 2 packets of sweet n low/splenda. you can order a ton online in all sorts of flavors that would help: http://www.davincigourmet.com/products/sugar_free_flavored_syrups/
there are also other brands: search good 'sugar free coffee syrup'

While the best option yet is only to drink 1-2 cups a day and not use sugar or artificial sweetner at all.. it's life! :) make the best of it his way or try.. .

I use a 'No sugar added' Hot Cocoa - (I use Kroger Brand)... it has 50 calories and 7 grams of sugar in comparison to other coffee additives. It takes care of my chocolate wants :flowerforyou: as well as adding to my coffee. My kids call it "Mom's Coffee Mocha"... I drink a cup of it every morning and evening. I discovered weirdly by chance - wanting my coffee one day when my stomache was so upset but there was no milk to help coat my tummy... it tasted good to me and have been drinking it ever since! :drinker:

LOL, I could have written this post myself! I would fill my coffee cup 3/4 of the way, and then fill it the rest of the way with creamer! I easily added 4 Tbsp to a single cup! I have given up all sweets and junk food, but I refuse to give up my coffee. REFUSE.

Here's what I did. It's about weaning and retraining your tastes (a bit) so that you can find it still enjoyable, without wrecking your day. First, I got out my measuring spoon. And for every cup, I measured out 2 TBSP of my fave creamer. I did this until I went through an entire large bottle of creamer. It didn't take long. I quickly got used to the lesser amount, and THEN I switched to the SF version. Still measuring for every cup, that was only a very small adjustment. I also use Silk french vanilla or hazelnut creamers, which have 40 cals in 2 Tbsp vs 30 cals in the sugar free versions. I don't add any additional sweeteners, so 30 cals a cup is good to me. I can do 3 cups a day, and I am still under 100 cals for the day. I find this to be ok. I still get my treat, and the calories are minimal. If you find that's still too high, you could gradually wean yourself down to a Tbsp a cup. I may eventually do that, but for now, I am happy where I am at.

The silk products don't have quite the same richness, but I do like the fact that they don't have any partially hydrogenated oils added, where the SF creamers do have a small amount. I also have gotten these little flavored cal free/sugar free/fat free candies (for lack of a better word) that you add to your coffee. They dissolve and then flavor the coffee. I haven't tried them yet though.
  • Try Silk Original Creamer. It's soy with 0 sugar and 1 fat. Only 15 calories and has a creamy taste.

I had the exact adiction. I switched to suger free, and you know what I hate it. I have one cup of coffe a day with the sugar free stuff in it. I will always hate it, but I will love being thin.
  • Coffe mate makes a hazelnut sugar free creamer that is awesome

Thanks for thee ideas........I think some of you may have missed the part where I said I don't (and won't) do artificial sweeteners....so that means I will not try any of the sugar free ideas. Hopefully they will help somebody else though!

At this point I will try the honey and cinnamon and maybe the silk....although when I have tried soy products in the past, I have not cared for them. I love honey and I just never thought it would taste right in coffee, but it's worth a try!

It isn't even the caffeine that I need....just a warm beverage is the real habit. I have cut back to half a cup of coffee and I have tried adding in a cup of green tea with a little honey. It's supposed to be so good for you and I keep trying it........for some strange reason it has a very odd effect on me though and leaves me not feeling well......

    Thanks

So Delicious makes a coconut milk creamer that is far superior to the Silk soy creamers I have used. It actually turned my milk lighter and tasted creamy, not watered down.

I agree with you! No artificial sweetners! I was freaking out to by the amount of calories and sugar the creamers were adding. Then I discovered that just some milk and two teaspoons of real sugar had far less calories and grams of sugar than the processed stuff. It took a couple of days to get used to, but it's real sweetness and much beeter on the calorie count.

I use splenda and low fat french vanilla. Its not as good as it used to be with real sugar and a ton of chocolate creamer but its still pretty good. I'm trying to wean myself off of the caffiene all together and get my energy from healthy food.

How about fat free half and half and a small piece of candy? I know it doesn't sound like a "healthy" idea, but even putting a lifesaver in your coffee to melt and make it minty (my grandma does that!) is less calories and sugar than those flavored creamers. Even a small piece of chocolate, or a few chocolate chips would do the trick!

Or, fat free half and half and a dash of vanilla extract!

Oh I really like this idea! My mom switched to half and half and keeps telling me to try it......I bet some dark choc chips wouldn't be nearly as much sugar, I'll try it!

They make flavored agave nectar (amaretto and vanilla) which is sweeter than sugar and all natural. It adds flavor to your coffee, then you could perhaps use 2% milk or skim to add the creaminess. I learned to like my coffee black, it took a few weeks but now if I tamper with it (by adding anything creamy or sweet) I do not enjoy it. Funny how we can manipulate our tastebuds.
  • I also love cream and sweet coffee/tea, but had to find a better alternative. What I use now is really great - I use Unsweetened Soy Milk (which has a sweetish taste in its own right) and Stevia, which is the best thing in terms of sweetening. It is COMPLETELY natural - no calories, carbs, etc. etc. and NO additives/chemicals - nothing. I have a huge problem with stuff like Splenda because of the idea of chemicals. Stevia is taken from a plant, you can buy it in powder or liquid form, I recommend the former though for hot drinks. You only need to use a tiny bit, because it's much sweeter than sugar. It might take a little getting used to, because it doesn't taste the same as sugar, sweet wise, ie/ if you use too much there's a bitter hint to it, but now that I'm used to it I love it. I also use it in Oatmeal and when making whipper cream, it's really great. I hope this helps!
  • I do fat free half and half and 2 packets of stevia; no artificial sweetener and is still tons healthier than artificial. If you want some flavor, folger's has flavored gourmet coffees that are awesome. hazelnut and vanilla are my favorites. I get the flavor, sweet, and cream all for about 50 cals!

I was addicted to the White Chocolate Raspberry International Coffee Creamer too! However a friend of mine told me about Sam's and/or Walmart having "Davinci Sugar Free" flavored coffee syrups. I bought some and "oh my" they are wonderful! No Calories, No Carbs, No Sugar, 10mg of Sodium and that is all! I still use 2 teaspoons of Coffeemate's original powder for creaminess and best of all, I don't even miss the other creamers any longer!

They have SF Raspberry, SF Vanilla, SF French Vanilla and SF Hazlenut!

    Best of luck!
