When do I stop/reset my hrm?

So, the way I usually do my runs is I'll run about 3-4 miles away from my house and walk that distance back (I've been increasing the running time/distance slowly so that number is getting higher) but my question is, after I finish my run, should I reset my heart rate monitor before beginning the walk back? Or should I just let it continue until I'm done with everything?

I stop my hrm when I'm sitting on my butt. If i'm running/walking specifically for my exercise of the day. I keep the hrm going till i'm done with my exercise.. it that helps...
If you want to know how much calories u burned on the run separate from ur walk then restart ur hrm when u walk back..... You can "create" your own exercise label it anyway you want when u want to log it on here..

Personally, I would leave it running (since you are actually exercising) unless your HR drops to 90 or below. Then it's time to turn it off because it's not accurate at that level.
  • I'm curious to hear what other MFP users will have to say but personally, I'm with mellynat. I just let mine go until my heart rate drops below the lowest zone (the HRM I have shows me three zones). I figure if my heart's still going that fast, I'm still spending those calories! Hopefully someone else can confirm / deny that.

It depends on what you are tracking. If you only concerned about the overall time and calories then stop when you are done. If you download the info to keep track of your runs you might want to use laps or reset and start another exercise for the walk portion.

My Garmin HRM allows me to quickly reset between my warm up, run, then cool down, so I can keep my run data separate.
