I was suppose to do week 2 workout 3 of c25k today but after my warm-up when I went to start jogging the inner part of my knees and right below them tstarted hurting every time my foot hit the pavement. Both sides. So I just walked. But the pain was still there while I walked just not as bad as when I jogged. Does anyone know what could be causing this or what to do? I'm really disappointed this has halted my progress.

Good shoes are a big requiement. Not necessarily expensive, but good cushiny. Not know your weight, it's kind of hard. But I recommend to new runners, start by walking when you can walk without pain, then start by jogging slowly. Anytime you start an excersize like running or jogging, things are going to hurt. They have never been used to running. take is slow. Start by walking and once your legs are warmed up start a slow jog. when your breathing is heavy or your pain is geeting bad, walk again. Once you have recovered, start the jog again. Soon you will find you are jogging a lot more than you are walking. Soon once you start jogging, you won't have to walk again.

Why don't you add me to your friend list and let me know how you are progressing.

You need to work on you hip ABDUCTORS. You HAVE to. NO choice. I get that pain every time I run. I work on it every night. Weak hip abductors cause most pain in the knees while running. It stopped me dead in my tracks today. It does get better though, but takes a while.

I have to agree with basil in starting slow and what I would add to it is did you seek advise from your doctor as they some times are the best at to health wise but start off slow and build up to it

Weak glutes and/or hips often manifest themselves as knee pain

check runnersworld.com for exercises specifically targeting those areas and don't forget you work your core too.

I was informed, the pain is from weak quads, because the tendons go down the front across the knee.

I injured my knee (damaged cartilage, which will not heal without surgery) by a fall over a year ago, and was unable to walk. I started walking bit by bit, and wanted to increase my exercise.. I saw a girl wearing strange boots when she was running. I investigated, and found Kangoo Jumps, which reduce the impact/compression on your knees and hips by over 60%. I bought a pair, and they do what they say they do. I still have pain when walking, but can run 3-6 miles 3+ times a week. They also work your core. A great workout

Somebody said "they are expensive", but then again, decent running shoes aren't cheap, and need replacing more frequently.

I agree with great shoes and lifting to gain muscle, but don't forget to stretch really well too. Stretching the inside and outside of the thigh will help with your knee pain. Grab a short pool noodle and place it under your hip while laying on one side. Use your body weight to adjust how much pressure you put on the pool noodle, and move your body so the noodle ends up at your knee. Repeat for the inside of your thigh. A trainer showed me that trick once. It's so painful the first few times, but helps a lot!
  • I have k swiss max blades that I jog in. Does anyone kno if these are not supportive enough b/c I was wondering if it could be my shoes. It's been over a year since I worked out and I gained 50 lbs during my pregnancy so I was wondering if maybe all the extra weight could be causing the pain too. I definitely need to work out more and strength train all the areas you all mentioned as they really are all weak. So ill definitely start on that right away. I thought c25k would be perfect place to start but maybe I need to start with strength training and walking first. Maybe? I really appreciate all the advice!
  • To be honest, although those Kangoo Jumps look fun I will probably not be purchasing them any time soon lol
