Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years

I want to urge anyone worried about these holidays oh any other food concerns to watch what I watched this a.m.

There are several other videos as well. Try to keep an open mind about this because many of us have been very, close minded about believing we can eat more and still lose weight. I upped my calories from around 1200 or BMR to 1600 and I have NOT gained an ounce. I do believe that I will be measuring very soon and seeing a change on that tape. I've stopped worrying about the scale and I just hope that others will no longer suffer or have to feel deprived, worried, guilty or ashamed of having goodies once in awhile.

Smoked turkey, cornbread dressing, and sweet potato pie these are the foods I look forward to the MOST during the Holidays. Nothing else really attracts me that much0

Anything sugar. Cookies, cake, pie, ice cream. But that is my battle year round.0

Sometimes, I really hate the holidays. If I get to be in control, such as hosting everyone else at my house, I'm fine. It's when I have to go another family member's home that I freak out.
First off, I'm germ-a-phobic against food borne illness. The vast majority of people don't know how to prepare food at home safely. I just cringe when I see the same cutting board being used for meat and then used for vegetables after only a quick rinse. Pour bleach on that thing! Them germs are tough mothers! Check the internal temp of the turkey! Underdone poultry is a serious health issue.
Emergency rooms are overrun with sick people on Thanksgiving and Christmas because of food borne illness. Entire families start showing up about 7-8 hours after their meal due to food poisoning.
That aside, there is also the stress of having to spend many, many hours with people you spend most of the year avoiding. Most of my adult life, I've worked in retail. This is a brilliant excuse for avoiding tense family situations. "Sorry, I have to work 12 hour shifts from now until Jan. 2nd. Go on and have a great time without me!"
When I actually do find myself obliged to attend a family dinner, I drink way too much. This causes me to consume way too many empty calories. Oh, then I act like a ****. Then I will likely cause a fight with a family member. Then my husband will be mad at me for wishing to leave early (he loves family gatherings...weirdo). Then I get to fight with my spouse for the whole next week over my inappropriate behavior. This just makes me want to drink more.
Maybe I'll sign up for a seasonal retail position. It just seems so much easier, and someone has to keep the economic wheels turning, right?0 -

I have a serious sweet tooth no matter what time of year it is, so I make sure I have one sweet thing a day because I think it would be wrong for me to live my life without indulging at all. I try to limit it to 150 calories or less for daily sweets, and I give myself a 200 - 300 calorie treat once a week or sometimes only every two weeks. During the winter holidays I really like pies and cookies. For Thanksgiving I'm going to make low-fat/calorie pumpkin, apple, and pecan pies for my family, friends and self. I've already developed recipes for cookies and I'm probably going to make a cobbler cookie of some sort for Christmas. I'll make sure to post the recipes on here too! I've always eaten small portions during the holidays because I like to sample everything, but that can add up calories. Since I'm vegetarian I won't have to worry about Turkey/Ham anymore which can be pretty beneficial to staying healthy. Man I feel like I'm rambling...0

Halloween I'm ok with because I don't like candy
Thanksgiving is usually a disaster. I eat everything in huge portions. Its all my favorite food. Turkey, Stuffing, Turnips, Brussel Sprouts, Gravy, Mashed potatoes, and of course PIE
Christmas - We have a lot of family get togethers at restaurants and stuff. Hard to resist

I am not looking forward to the holidays as this is my first year here and I know my family will insist on the high fat, high calorie foods that I can't even begin to incorporate into my 1240 a day allowance. Planning on cutting fat where I can, less butter in the mashed potatoes and the sweet potato casserole and fat free cream of mushroom soup in the green bean casserole. Then at Christmas I am the family baker and I bake hundreds of cookies and fruit cake and everyone's favorite nut roll, pecan filling inside of a sweet yeast dough. Give these for gifts to family and neighbors. Trying my best to not think about it because just the thought of all that work that I can't eat drives me insane. How do you guys that have been here through the holidays handle it? Seriously thinking of just not logging on Thanksgiving. Putting in those recipes will be an all day job.0

Halloween's not an issue for me, but it might be next year when I have a grandchild.
I do the cooking on Thanksgiving and Christmas so I have control! LOL!
I poll my sons and DILs for the kinds of pies they want me to bake for Thanksgiving and Christmas and I bake the two top choices each holiday. I do the same with cookies at Christmas but then it's the top five. They have to promise to take all the leftovers home, including turkey, ham, potatoes, stuffing, gravy, etc. Happily, they do and none of them have weight issues.
I save a couple of the flaky rolls and make turkey vegetable soup with the turkey bones for myself after each holiday (although some of that usually goes home with one or more of them because I make a LOT!)0
