Hi everyone,

All my life, I've been one of the bigger kids. And it doesn't help that most of the people where I grew up in were tiny. I'm 23, 168 lbs. and at my heaviest. I have a huge sweet tooth and it doesn't help me or my boyfriend who gained back 45 lbs after he lost all of the weight before we started dating. I feel horrible, and even when I try to workout I end up not doing it because of work and school. I know that's not an excuse. I feel that I can do better if I was more open about it than just shutting it off. I would love to hear words of wisdom and motivaton from anyone. Maybe I can take this as like the forum for those prospective Navy Seals before they undergo the BUDS training.

Thanks in advance!

The first thing I learned on this weight loss journey is that no one can do it for you but you. You need to write yourself a list two columns, why you want to lose weight. One column is what motivates you to do so, and the other is what keeps you from doing so. Use this to guide you and see why it is that you really want to lose weight. Be completely honest with yourself so that you know what drives you and what causes you to fail. Be realistic with the question, are my goals motivated by external forces, boyfriends, parents, friends, etc, or are they governed by internal forces, finally sick and tired of being big, health concerns, etc. If your reasons for weight loss are more external than internal you need to soul search, because what this means is that if you are on this journey for other people, other people can take you off it. If your internal reasons outweigh your external, you are in this for you, and let THESE things drive you, motivate you, and separate you from those who "want" to lose weight, and those who "have" lost weight.

The point of all that is to say, make sure that you do it for you, no one else, because when it is YOUR weight loss journey, you take it personally, and you can make it last longer even through the oops, failures, fall downs, and get back up and try again. That is my encouragement for you, do it for you.

It's more about diet than it is about working out.
Make an honest effort to log your foods for at least a couple of weeks. See what you're putting in your face vs burning off. It is much harder to make bad decisions when they are informed decisions.
