I was thinking about it when the slim quick commercial came on... "I lost 1 size, husband lost 6 sizes"

Pound for pound a guy has more muscle mass generally. So 165lb guy and 165lb girl, the guy has a higher metabolism and more muscle mass.
And guys have different hormones like more testosterone and HGH then girls. Girls have more estrogen which helps store fat around hips and booties and stomach.
No, it's not fair.0 -
I read that men burn more calories than women (maybe because they naturally have more muscle?) also someone who is taller and weighs more will burn more than someone who is shorter and weighs less so I'm sure that this factors in as well. I think our hormones make women hold onto a bit of a fat store. Just thoughts0

Haha we basically posted the same thing at the same time!0 -
Sorry to be the one to tell you guys this but unfortunately women have an extra layer of fat cells around the waist which makes it a little harder 4 u guys0

guys have more muscle and less hormones that make their bodies retain fat.
so lift weights.. heavy ones0 -
Hormones and muscle mass, duh. And they also don't have women's magazines poisoning their minds about bulkiness and supplying them with 1200 calorie diet tips.0
-
While I agree that is it most likely due to hormones and muscle mass....I say mostly it is just to really tick me off0

Not sure if serious.0

Because in general they have a higher BMR and weigh more / more lean mass. So they can eat at a 1000 calorie deficit on the amount of food that would give a woman a deficit of 500 or less (possibly even no deficit at all).
Girls that eat the same as guys didn't read their body's manual ;-)0 -

I used to think that guys were lucky and lost weight more easily, and that once I hit 30 my metabolism lowered so it was useless for me to even try-then I actually paid attention to what I ate and my workouts and the pounds melted off. Sure, I gain it back when I eat like a trash compacter and my exercises wanes, but overall it isn't hard to lose weight at a decent pace.
It does take a lot of discipline though, I won't deny that.0 -
Husband and I are both at 12 lbs lost in 5 weeks. He drinks about 3000 Kcal in beer tho. I could never get away with that.0

Agree with everyone else here about the muscle mass and hormones issue.
If one can't do too much about the hormones, at least get onto a solid weight training program, and bear down further as far as eating really clean and within your needs for calories. The solid weight-training program with emphasis on larger muscle groups and interval training will help recompose the body in favor of some more muscle mass, which in turn is metabolically more active.
Still, since men do have the testosterone advantage, they build and retain muscle much more easily. And it doesn't take much dietary restriction for a man to drop pounds either. A dramatic case of this was my sister-in-law and her husband. Since her husband has had heart attacks and also diabetes, he was put on a strict, near vegan, low-fat diet, which he does really well on and enjoys. He lost 18 pounds in a very reasonable amount of time, while sister-in-law was miserable and hungry the whole time and dropped, a whole 2 pounds in the same amount of time. It's not like she doesn't have weight to lose - she has about 60 extra pounds on her that she is very unhappy about. Or the case of the guy who simply drops beer and desserts and loses 10 pounds on the way out the door LOL, while his girlfriend or wife is sweating it at the gym, eating really cleanly and all, and loses just 2-3 pounds and feeling hungry and cranky the whole time.0 -

You too can lose 15 lbs this week if you only drink a mixture of lemon water and sardines! Look at how thin our models are...it must work! :huh:0
