Issues running with a stroller?

I ran with my 3 kids last night, one in a stroller. I've been running for 6 months, and once I got proper shoes, I haven't had any issues with shin splints. But last night, my shins hurt. Not constant, but occasional sharp shooting pain.

Any idea why? It must be something in how I ran with the stroller, but I'm not sure how or what to do differently next time. We went slower than I normally run, and with far more walk breaks. I'm training the kids for a 5K.

I'm going to hazard a guess that your posture changed pushing the stroller which would have changed your stride somewhat.

When I run with the wagon full of kids I get shin splints. I have never fully recovered from it, so jolting my legs too much makes it start hurting every time. My kids poop out on me and go back home at around 2 miles when we walk/ run. Good Luck!

Yes, my posture and gait would change when I ran with a stroller. I hated it so I just gave that part up and figured out other things.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I don't have much choice...I want to help the kids train, and Tues/Wed nights I have all 3 by myself while hubby is in class. So I either run with them, or I don't get to exercise. Well, there is the dreaded treadmill LOL. I plan to do this once a week, and then another time during the week take just the big kids, so no stroller.

I've been trying to recreate my normal posture while running with the stroller. Mine has a strap I can hold onto to make sure it doesn't roll away without me, so I can just lightly grasp the stroller handle with one hand, with the strap in that hand, and keep the other hand "normal". I found that with the stroller, I pound down onto the pavement from upright more than without - without I lean forward more - so tonight I was trying to mimic better running posture.

Maybe try to work on your gait with the stroller, or see a stride coach at a running store if they do clinics like ours does. Good luck!
