1200 calorie limit?

I've been tinkering with my goals out of curiosity, and whatever I do it sets my calories at 1200, and tells me I will lose 0.9lb a week, even if I say I want to lose 2lb a week. That's fine, really - heavens knows, I don't want them telling me I can only eat 800 calories a day! But I am curious - does MFP have 1200 as their bottom calorie allowance? Has anybody been given less?

You may want to consider exercise to help you lose those 2 lbs a week.0

If you're very small and it's giving you 1200 calories/day and saying you'll lose .9lbs/week you are not the kind of person who should be aiming for 2 lbs/week. That's really only healthy for people with a lot to lose.0

I lost all of my weight on 1200-1300 cal a dayand di not "eat back"y exercise cals. I lost about 2 lbs a week consistently for 18 months. It just is not healthy to eat less than 1200 and you probably can't get proper nutrition unless you are taking special supplements or are under a doctors care (i.e. bypass surgery).0

Thanks - really it was just curiosity about how MFP works. I've only got about 10lb to lose, and as I've started strength training, it will probably take longer than 10 weeks, which is just fine by me. I was just playing around and wanted to know why the 1200 didn't shift.0

Strength training will do amazing things for your body. Make sure you log all of your food and exercise and only good things will happen!0

if youve got only 10 lb to lose you must be eating much higher than 1200,have you considered your BMR and TDEE?0

The 1200 bottom limit isn't implemented very intelligently, if you do 300 cals of exercise it urges you to eat 1500 when it should really be 1400 or whatever (target + 300) comes to, rather than 1200 + 3000 -
Hi
I agree with the others, anything less than 1200 a day is counterproductive.
I want to lose 18lbs and my cals were set at 1200 a day which it said would give me a 0.8lb a week loss.
Well I lost 1.2lbs my first week and my second weigh in today showed that I have lost another 1.8lbs which means I've lost 3lbs in two weeks so well ahead of the scheduled 0.8!
I am eating 1200 a day but not eating my exercise cals. Again, I'm not going mental doing exercise that I won't be able to maintain for the long term.
I go for a 20-30 minute walk every day in my lunch hour and do the same at the weekends. That seems to be enough to keep the weight coming steadily off.
This time I am doing it properly and not starving myself/living mainly on fruit and veg/not eating carbs after 5pm. I eat carbs in the evening and am still losing! MFP rocks :smokin:0
