Dairy Free replacements?

I absolutely love my mum's beef stroganoff (sp?) recipe which she has perfected over the years, but my boyfriend is allergic to milk. I love cooking for him and would love for him to try this recipe, but it uses creme fraiche (healthier version) or double cream (not so healthy!)
My question is, does anybody know of a dairy free alternative I could use in such a recipe? It would be added right at the end after the stew simmering for about 1hr45 to thicken it up and make it nice and creamy. Would soya cream work? I have this awful image of it just curdling and ruining dinner!
Thanks in advance

I know there are dairy free sour creams. I also just learned that soaking cashews then simmering over low heat will create an awesome "cheese" sauce.0
