Sodium

Been eating Weight Watchers Smart Ones microwave lunches until a coworker warned me about the sodium. On average they have 850 mg of sodium which says to be 33% of daily intake. I then switched over to Star Kist Charlies Lunch Kit Light Tuna Salad. This has 720 mg of sodium which says to be 30% of daily intake. Should I be concerned about having this much sodium in one meal? Are there any easy box lunches that are low in sodium and calories but high in protein. One reason I like the Tuna is because it has 20g of protein and only 210 calores.

A general rule of thumb is to keep sodium below 500mg/serving of whatever you are eating. The most important thing with sodium though is to make sure not to go over on your daily intake allotment and drink plenty of water when consuming foods higher in sodium.0

I have just recently opened my eyes to the sodium in foods. It's scary how much sodium is in so many foods I eat. I've had to really start watching the labels because even things you think are good to eat, i.e., cottage cheese, is high in sodium.
Maybe you can try making your own tuna and that way you can control how much sodium you use.0 -
packaged foods and soups are usually very high in sodium. I had an issue with high sodium/low potassium and the doctor told me to stay away from prepacked (boxed) meals and look at the sodium content in everything. Frozen meals are especially bad.
I buy low sodium/reduced salt products when they are available - especially for soups. You just have to be aware and read the labels.0 -
Yes....watch the sodium. It's bad for your body. Not to mention you will retain water and will make it seem like you haven't lost as much weight. There are tons of articles on the internet on the effect of high sodium levels in your body. Worth reading........0
