3 Week Headache

Hi everyone. This has absolutey nothing to do with weight loss but I am getting desperate. My 17 year old daughter has had a headache for three weeks. We have been to the emergency room twice, to see her regular doctor three times, to the neurologist, had sinuses x-rayed, blood work done, a CT scan, a sleep-deprived EEG, and a Contrast MRI. The sinus x-rays, CT scan, and the blood work came back fine. The EEG had abnormalities and is being repeated next week. The MRI was just done so we don't have results for that yet. The headache was severe for the first several days and has eased off at times, but has not went totally away. The headache is mainly on the left side of her head but sometimes hurts in the back of her head or on the top of her head. The neurologist seems to think it is probably a migraine but is waiting on the results of the MRI and the second EEG before making a diognosis. My daughter has missed a lot of school because of this. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Please keep her in your prayers. Thank you.

Sorry cant help you out. The more the results come back negative for stuff, the better it should be ( I would hope). Migranes are easier to deal with.0

My brother's fiance's sister has had severe migraines for 4 years straight. They're so bad that she currently takes morphine because nothing else will work. I hope your daughter gets relief!0 -
i have those...migraine most likely. i take topomax 25mg (2 in the morning and 2 at night). they seem to be worse around that TOM. it took years before anyone diagnosed me properly.0

Is she feeling dizzy at all? I had this problem a couple of years ago. Couldn't even walk straight some days. Got dizzy and lost my balance a few times. Turns out, I made a trip to the dentist and had TMJ! I would've never guessed it, since I didn't have any jaw pain and doctors couldn't tell me what was going on, either. Good luck figuring it out and I hope she feels better.0

Is she taking birth control? That stuff gave me wicked migraines, and they stopped when I stopped taking it.0

They could be cluster headaches. They are similar to migranes, get really bad, ebb off but not go away and then get worse, in the cycle that will end when it will end. They also seem to be focused in an area, but when they peak, it hurts in more spots. They can last for a long time and make life miserable. I hope she finds some relief for them, as they are not fun. (Longest I had one last is six months so far.)0

Thank you. No. She hasn't had any dizziness.0 -
I get really bad headaches and have had the MRI and scans and all that stuff. My problem was my eyes! Of all things! I don't know if your daughter wears glasses/contacts but if not, I would recommend getting her eyes checked. Nothing is blurry for me an I can read just fine without them but it was just "tweaked" enough that when I read or did computer work, my eyes weren't quite focusing enough.
I get migraines from other things too but this helped with a huge source of them!0 -

No. She hasn't been on birth control.0 -
I've dealt with migraines my entire life. Does she drink a lot of caffeine? I found out I was actually allergic to caffeine which was my biggest trigger. It's also a main ingredient in most headache meds as well. So when I told the doctors, the medication was making it hurt more, I wasn't kidding. I had multiple week long headaches before and since then, they haven't completely quit but have subsided to once a month or less.0

Has she started eating a new food or drink that coincides with the length of the headache?
Also, a friendly bump and hopes she is headache-free soon. :flowerforyou:0 -

This too! I have a pair that have like .25 of a prescription and wore them for about four years. Now I don't need them.0 -

She does wear glasses. Her last eye exam was about 4 months ago. When I had her at her regular doctor's today he did say he was refering her to an opthamologist ( I'm sure that is spelled wrong) that is different from her regular one. So the doctor does think her eyes could be a possibility.0 -
Be sure the DR's check for West Nile Fever. Main syptom is a headache that will not go away over a prolong period of time.0

No new foods but she did eat something that had soy sauce in it a few hours before the headache began. I have heard that soy sauce can trigger migraines.0 -
Thanks. I will .0

Thank you to everyone who replied to my post. My daughter is finally feeling better.0
