Eggs in Purgatory
Saw this on Nigellissima last night. Looks so amazing i'm gonna have it for my tea tonight!
In a small frying pan, gently sweat one garlic clove and some finely chopped red chilli in olive oil until soft.
Add one tin of chopped plum tomatoes.
Once the tomatoes are bubbling away, crack one egg into the centre.
Grate a small amount of parmasan on top, to taste.
Put a lid on, cook until egg is poached to your liking, serve with chunky wholemeal bread.
All for 300 or so calories, depending on how much bread you go for!
Yum yum yum!

I saw this too. I am actually in love with Nigella and want to be her slightly submissive, shy wife.
In other news, this recipe - whilst sounding somewhat odd - actually looked delish. Going to give it a go myself0 -

Yum! Bump for later0

I do this for brunch sometimes but with leftover vegetarian chilli - put it all in a pan and make little holes to drop the eggs into, then serve over toast. I think it's something similar to Huevos Rancheros? Simply delicious.0

Started watching that but there is something about her that really winds me up. 10 minutes was all I could manage.0

Scrap that. It was going to be poached eggs on toast for tea tonight but I'm making this instead!0

A tiny bit too hammy perhaps?0 -
By the way, thank you for sharing the recipe.
I would probably make it with fresh sliced tomatoes instead of tinned and towards the end of cooking, throw in some flaked smoked fish (mackerel or haddock) and a couple of chopped spring onions for a bit of crunch.
One of my favourite weekend breakfasts.0 -
Bump to try. If Nigella thinks it's tasty then it's worth a try.0

it looked amazing as did Nigella0

Did you see the meatza? I liked the idea of it - but then it looked a little dry when she was serving it up to the kiddies
But still..........meatza *drooling*
By the way Nigella does look amazing, doesn't she? There's no way she eats the stuff she cooks, well not anymore at least .......0 -
Ah, the Domestic Goddess is back to get us all out of those everyday
culinary pickles, with her cunning combinations of ingredients.......
Sauce for pasta? Why not use
Those little salty fishes
Add sultanas and some capers
Your guests will say “Delicious!”
Need a pudding in a flash?
Why, frozen fruits employ!
Cover them in limoncello
And watch your guests enjoy
Forgotten how to mash potato?
Just serve some semolina!
If they’ve drunk enough prosecco
Your guests could not be keener
A little after dinner treat?
Then liquorice saves the day
Dissolve in cream, then swan about
In a satin negligee
Hmmmmmmm. I’ve yet to be tempted to try any of these Nigellissimmaa
concoctions. She's not a proper cook - have you seen her try to chop an onion?0
