Hmm so now I am so very curious since I saw another thread that asked us to post about annoying Facebook statuses.

First, I am curious why do you have a facebook? AND what do you want your friends and family to post on their wall that will NOT annoy you? Since most of you seem to be annoyed with profile pics, bikini pix, ugly babies, wherabouts, relationship statuses, etc

..

I mean what else is there? :indifferent:

Facebook is a site dedicated to making mundane lives look utterly fantastic, and it also has a unique ability to generate drama from the most insignificant things.

At least here in the forums, when we have drama, there is a central role, helping people with fitness.

EDIT: I use it simply to keep in contact with family. So posts relevant to family issues i would enjoy, perhaps.

I started my face book to check it out for before my daughters wanted to get one. I found a lot of folks from my past and it is fun to see what they are up too, and now some of us get together every once in awhile. It is what you make it, or what you allow it to make you. I am not a big on posting, either there of here on MFP. I'd drop my face book before I dropped MFP
  • I use mine to have a laugh with friends/work colleagues - silly photos and messages and the like. I also get a huge enjoyment from following the bands which I like and seeing tour and fan photos. Also entering competitions. I don't really use it for family as such.

It is what you want it to be, if someone annoys you, don't follow them any more :)
  • I actually find FB to be a fabulous way to keep up with the day to day of people you might not otherwise. I'm a single mom, with a full time job in IT (which means that 40 hours is often a dream). And my friends have their own lives and are busy as well. Finding the time to keep up with the little things in my friends' lives is difficult, and I like that I have an aggregator for that. I want to see what they're doing and what they find amusing or interesting, just not every 15 minutes. There are a couple of people who post something approximating 25 times a day. That's tiresome. But it only has to be drama if you (or your friends) let it be.

If you don't like the drama, don't feed it, and don't encourage people to feed it.
  • Psychology paper finds Facebook and other social media offer platform for obsessions with self-image and shallow friendships.

Researchers have established a direct link between the number of friends you have on Facebook and the degree to which you are a "socially disruptive" narcissist, confirming the conclusions of many social media sceptics.

People who score highly on the Narcissistic Personality Inventory questionnaire had more friends on Facebook, tagged themselves more often and updated their newsfeeds more regularly.

The research comes amid increasing evidence that young people are becoming increasingly narcissistic, and obsessed with self-image and shallow friendships.

Yep, that about sums it up..

My favourite recent FB status, posted by one of my best friends from school (who is also my son's godfather):

"Really happy that I have finally reached my target weight which according to BMI means that I am 'Officially' no longer overweight for the first time that I can remember! After losing 5 stone 5lb this year it feels fantastic"

    It certainly inspired me.
