working out at night

I have always been a night owl. I hate mornings. I spent two months without working to exercise and diet and did get up but now, I find myself slacking. Is working out at night just as helpful? Is there any type that is better for nights so I don't risk not wanting to sleep?

Workout whenever you want. If evening/night time works for you, then have at it. You'll have to see how/if it affects your sleep - some people it does, some people it doesn't.0

I workout for an hour every night because I'm not a morning person, and I sleep like a rock every night. Find whats right for you and go for it. Good luck0

Whatever fits your schedule is fine.
I personally believe evening is more optimal than early morning.0 -
I workout about 5:30 as soon as I get home from work and I sleep well, hate having to get up early in the mornings x0

I work out at night because I can't get up any earlier. I have a 3 yr old and go after putting him to sleep at 8. I work out for an hour most nights. It has worked for me. You are energized after the work out so I don't go to bed right after. I'm usually up for an hour or more after the workout. I even go when I work my second job.. I don't get off till 10 on those nights. Do what's best for u. There is no right or wrong here.0

You will burn a few more calories working out in the AM, however, missing the sleep is not worth it to me. I work out at lunch time and after work.... Like others have mentioned, find what works for you; that way you stick with it.0

The biggest benefits come from exercise when you will actually do it consistently and not miss workouts.
Getting up early means you need to get to bed earlier, working at noon cuts into eating, there is a big crowd at the gym and on the trails right after work, and exercising right before bed can make it hard to sleep.... they all have downsides, but whenever you will do it every time you intend to is what will work best.0 -
If I work out at night, I will be wide awake till early in the morning...0

Ditto ^. I work out anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours, 3 nights a week. I do at least an hour of cardio and then the rest is strength. I typically finish up around 8:00, then have to get the kids to bed, spend some time with hubby and get lunches packed for the next day, so I go to bed around 10:00 and I sleep like a ROCK! I HATE mornings and, although I love running with my longest run now at 12 miles, I typically don't sign up for races because they are all in the MORNING! lol0 -
I do not have the energy for a.m workouts. In the morning the most I can do is 1/2 a workout and then I'm too exhausted to finish it. In the p.m I can do a whole workout and then some. I don't reccomend exercising after 8 p.m, because it will make you restless.0

I always work out in the evenings. I already get up at 6am and getting up at 4:30 is not smething I want to do. I figure I benefit more by working out in the evening while I'm wide awake as oppossed to stumbling through an early morning workout.0

I also work out in the evenings but before dinner. I get home from work around 5:30pm and then go to the gym at 7pm. I usually eat a banana for breakfast so do not really want to eat another as a snack before a work out. Any suggestions as to what to eat before a workout at this time of the day? (worth mentioning that I am vegan so dairy is out).0

While I'm not a morning person I have two sessions. I would do one in the morning and one at night. The only reason its broken up that way is so that I can do what I have to through during the day. If that wasn't an issue, I'd do it whenever the mood hit me.0

many people workout at night...those on the nightshift etc. The great thing about exercises is that it your body doesnt care when its done , just that its done:) As all are saying, just do what works best for you. Kick butt and take names-even at midnight, lol.0

Although I really enjoyed the metabolism boost I got from working out in the mornings, I am totally not fond of rising before the sun so I usually work out in the late afternoon/evening. I try to envision myself kicking the crap out of any frustrations I've experienced during the day, and that seems to be great motivation to work hard after putting in a day at the office.
When I was managing the early AM workouts, it was due to a temporary malfunction in my sleeping habits -- I was up that early anyway, so decided to use the time wisely.
Either way, I sleep like a friggin' baby after a good, solid workout -- AM or PM.0 -
I used to hit the gym at 11:30 p.m. It was my favorite time to work out! I never had a problem getting to sleep, but I always made sure not to work out RIGHT before bed.
My current gym closes at 10, so I go in the morning. I miss late evenings tbh.0 -
I'm a morning person, and I love working out in the morning. I find as the day goes on, I eat more, get more sluggish, lazy, want to relax after working all day and not get sweaty.
I need the energy boost in the morning, I'm addicted to it!
As others have said, whatever works for you and whatever time makes it easy to stick to a schedule.0 -

THis^
Just do what works for you. I find I have a hard time sleeping if I work out too intense late in the day, but I'm older and that happens.0 -
I work out around 7pm every evening and don't have issues falling asleep. I already get up at 4:20 am, so I'm NOT getting up any earlier. Just as others have said, do what works for you.0
